Scion FR-S Performance Project by MotoIQ

For those of you that don't follow MotoIQ, they're reporting that they've acquired an FR-S as their latest project car.

The introductory article, which is very informative in itself, can be found at:

http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_artic...-part-one.aspx

I enjoyed it, and I hope you will, too. I'm looking forward to future installments.

Any idea why these guys are struggling so much to tune their car? John was one the case and it appeared that after nearly replacing all the exhaust and intake components the ECU is fighting their mods. Is this a common issue on 91oct?

They state it a couple of times that they think the fuel is causing it - the car's designed to run on higher rated fuel (98RON/93AKI), so if you're putting in 91oct fuel the ECU is going to try to compensate to avoid knocking. Given the high compression ratio, this is understandable.

(note that in Japan the premium fuel is 100RON, which is more like 94 AKI)
