CEL/Idle Fault - Toyota GB Statement

Over here in the UK we've had a few cases of the fault. A few of us have been following on here and collating data on our local forum (GT86ownersclub). We have a couple of Toyota salesmen on the forum and they managed to pass on a bulletin from Toyota GB this morning. Thought I'd let you all know as they seem to be getting on the ball here as we've been pushing TGB hard to get a resolution:

During this activity we have become aware of an issue which affects 36 vehicles, less than4% of total vehicles sold. These vehicles have experienced rough running caused by theengine ECU restricting the operation of the VVTi Controller. The root cause of the issue isthe relationship of the tolerances in VVTi Controller design and the ECU software. We can assure you that this does not damage the engine because as soon as the ECU detects that a sensor signal is out of specification it will protect the engine by inducing a failsafe condition and, at the same time, illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp to inform the driver.
To affect a permanent resolution to this issue TMC have been developing an upgrade to the ECU software but this has taken time to bring to market due to the need for it to be homologated. Whilst this process has been on-going VVTi Controllers manufactured to a tighter specification have been available to fit to those vehicles experiencing the rough running condition.
We are pleased to confirm that the software homologation has now been completed and that it will be available on Thursday 25th October 2012. As this is now so close and a failure typically occurs within the first 2,000 miles we have taken the decision to hold deliveries of new cars until the software upgrade has taken place.

I wonder if that goes for GB only or rest of Europe to. Since Toyota Sweden told me the same bascially that there is an ECU update coming. And it's quite intressting that they are holding on all deliverys :O

That's what they did to my GT86 a couple of weeks ago and that got rid of the CEL but i still have a strange idle condition.

I hope thats true that theres no long term effects from it because ive already had this idle dip problem for 4400 miles.

They need to make it a TSB for the US already, but hopefully this means progress

the issues occurring have been making me almost want to cancel my order of the car :-/ and i really dont want to do that since ive been wanting this car for a LONNNG time. mines spose to be arriving january so im hoping the reason why i have to wait so long is due to the fixes and will be all resolved before i get one.

yea i feel the same way. I know that when the cel/sl come on the car goes into safe mode and i think the cam(s) shut off or something of that sort shuts off so maybe thats why the say theres no long term effects

My parts just came today, after 2½ weeks of waiting. Waiting for a call from the shop, they said they had herd news about ECU update and was going to call Toyota Sweden for an update. Called them about 3 hours ago, still waiting for the return call.
