To anyone considering factory tint...

I just got my tinting done by a local business owner. He charged me $120 for the entire job. While having a conversation with him he told me about 80% of his business is DEALERSHIP work. He installs the film on the cars at the port. Then the dealership turns around and charges $400 for a "factory" window tint. Please do not fall for this. Your dealer is likely to use a local shop to do their tints cheaper, then turn around and charge you an arm and a leg.

Thanks for the heads up, but I'm pretty sure this is well known already. Almost everything aside from factory accessories is farmed out to local shops. This includes tint, clear bra, paint work, body work, etc.

I was pretty sure a fair amount of people would know already, but I figured it's helpful anyway.

I guess I got lucky, my dealership has a tint guy and they did it in house. Only charged me $150. Most of the independent shops around town wanted more money for the same tint. But its always good to ask around, see what your dealer charges, then look at independent shops and what they charge, as well as the overall quality of their work.

I didn't consider it. It was already on the vehicle and if I wanted my Whiteout, that was the path I had to walk. Sure I could have gotten it done better and cheaper after buying the car, but we bought it at sticker, the dealership was so easy to work with we couldn't believe it and we WANTED THE CAR! lol.

As far as I know factory tint is never a FILM tint anyway. So calling it factory would be a lie, or at best a play on words to trick customers.

You can tell the difference between OEM tint and aftermarket. If it's on the window sticker (not an addendum slip), it's factory.

Cool window tint

well let me tell you.i have had tint put on my last 2 cars.one was good.the other was a shit job.all local work.and the last guy told me it was good for as long as i owned the car.it was on my hyundai coupe 2.0Twhen i saw how bad it was he got assy with me..the dealer got it fixed by another man.it was on the rear window.atleast mine says put on at the port.it was on the window sticker.yes it was about 250 more than a local dude.but you get what you pay for.and it was included in my payments!so you win and lose in this old world.the tint from toyota was fine with me.and its backed by the dealer/toyota!just like the toyota clear coat protection.i like that!!!! what the hell its backed by toyota.i am very happy....thank you very much.man there are some cheap people on here!go to a fly by night man and get it done.he will be out of bissness in a few years!even hyundai charged me 150 for a after market job?the tint wa second rate to boot.i like my so called factory tint.and the clear coat protection!give them a break.for 25.000 a great car!all i want is a factory arm rest!and change out the crappy exhaust!then i am done!nothing is free in this world! how bout my YANKEES!!! my job is on the sticker so i guess its covered by toyota?i like the job they did.

if you are concerned because it does not go ALL the way up to the very top on the door windows.well its because they know over the years.it could and will crack or peal off rolling up and down the windows.the way they raise up when you close the doors.and you can not tell it when the windows are all the way up.just like the mud flaps get them after market mine has the holes aready drilled out!like i said get the rear mud flaps and the toyota arm rest and some up graded exhaust and you are good to go!!!!

I've had two local guys do probably a half dozen of my vehicles, never an issue. One guy sold to the second, then he sold back to the first over the years.

Cost for the BRZ was $220 and my stang was $200, he only charged more since he hadn't done one and wasn't sure what he was up for. He dropped it to $200 but he did such a nice job I gave him the $220.

I could have gotten it about $50 cheaper in Denver when I picked up the car, but I didn't have time to hang down there while waiting to have it done. My remote area, $200 seems not bad at all.

Heck my Mega Cab only cost $280 and that has a LOT of window area.

My dealers never even tried to offer it, I think they got the message that I wasn't going to be taken for a ride...
