RAN94A's White 86 GT
So initially i wasnt planning on doing too much to this car for the first little while
but after a couple of quiet afternoons at work and some internet shopping lo-and behold i've bought more and more parts and have extensive plans for cosmetic mods i want to do..This combined with the fact im saving for a house = ![]() So ive challenged myself to achieve the look that i wanted and try and stay to a moderate budget (so keep that in mind before you tell me i should have bought x,y, or z all you brandwhores) ![]() The car: I picked the car up on the last day of August, and have been driving it nonstop since. To date i've put just over 3600Km's on it and the first three weekends of ownership were major roadtrips. This thing is amazing... having come from a 3.0R Subaru Liberty with AWD and Bilstein suspension i thought that handled pretty well.... This car leaves it for dead. The amount of grip and how planted it feels is nothing short of incredible, its so nimble through traffic and so predictable out of the city. The looks and the questions are pretty good too... everytime i've had to stop for fuel ive had people talking to me about the car. People hanging out of passenger windows to take a look/photos. I know there's risks/issues with being an early adopter but im loving it, for now until the car becomes more common i may as well be driving a Ferrari. The plan: So naturally after a while i began toying with ideas of things i may want to do to this to personalise it abit once they become more popular. After spending some time on the net and visiting a couple of Jap car meets i'd decided on the clean, traditional black on white "panda" look and thus begins my Mod diary. Mods Done: Phone Cradle 12V Power Splitter LED Parkers LED Number Plate Lights LED Boot light HID Low beams LED Footwell Lights - Red Vinyl wrapped front bumper insert - Matt Black Vinyl wrapped stereo fascia/passenger panel - Carbon Fibre. Mods Planned: 17"x8.25" XXR 530 Wheels - Matt Black Catback exhaust Mud Guards Gear knob Rear bootlip New air intake TRD Grille Badge Tinting Under door LED lighting. Sound System LED DRL/Fog's Beatsonic Sharkfin Antenna |

Initial Thoughts: I'd been watching this car since the first FT-86 concept was released. On top of that i never thought i would ever buy a brand new car just due to the amount that they drop in value.
Obviously this car is different and after much shopping around and discussion on the 31st of August i picked up RAN94A. (Big thanks to the guys at Ryde Toyota who were awesome the whole way through the purchase process and in subsequent dealings.) ![]() And a base line pic of how it looks unaltered (wont be staying this way for long.) ![]() Initial Mods: So the first thing i wanted to do was increase the amount of 12V sockets i had as there's a few things that need power (ie phone, GPS etc) and i also wanted to add interior LED's (good idea Toyota just not worth $250). And finally i wanted a phone cradle so that it was easier to have it hooked in to charge. With that said it was on to ebay where i picked up the 12V splitter and phone cradle for about $10. Then down to Supercheap where i picked up a LED interior kit for about $20. The phone cradle fits the blank panel where GTS gets heated seats perfectly. I mounted the 12V splitter down the side of the drivers seat. and ran the wiring for the LED kit all under the centre console. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next up: Next cab off the rank was lighting. Having come from a car with HID's, i wasnt about to go without in the 86 and as the GT has projectors in them anyway the glare wouldnt be that bad so i wasnt concerned about that. A quick PM to StreetFX and i had HID's and LED Parkers/Number Plate lights ready to go. I had a couple of LED strips laying around from the previous car so one of them went into the boot and i pulled off the Red cover for the door lights (on GTS) and found that there wasn't even wiring in there... Hmm... project for later. Parkers: ![]() Number Plate: ![]() HID's:
