Good coilover brand for DD - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hi I'm looking for a good coilover brand for DD that doesn't stiffen the ride up too much. If there's such thing as a softer setup that offers better handling that would be great although that's not usually the case when softening the ride.

The reason I'm going with coilovers instead of springs only is because I want to have the option to raise the car back to stock height in the event I'm caught up somewhere and the snowfall exceeds the ground clearance on the drop.

I've heard some people recommend BC Racing because of their affordability and the ability to adjust from soft to stiff. Anyone have any experience with these or have a better setup to recommend?

is your goal to lower the car or soften the suspension, or both?

you can't really have both. when you lower a car, you generally want a stiffer suspension setup to avoid bottoming out the car.

edit: i would suggest getting lowering springs if your goal is to lower the car. you get a much better bang per buck. as far as coilovers, the car is still relatively new and there aren't a lot of options/benchmarks. it appears that a lot of people are getting the KWV3 though.

A nice set of springs will only lower you an inch. I don't think that would make or break any snow fall clearance issues.

Coils that are nice for a DD is pretty subjective. KW's will be good on the street and offer you adjust ability plus have a great warranty.

BC's are not bad either, but they will not compare to the KW's.

Another option might be the Fortune Auto coilovers for the FRS/BRZ may be another budget option with some ability to help make sure ride isn't horrible. Swift springs here will help make a big difference as well.

moto spec RS*R was customized for DD and for weekend track days

there was a GB on them not sure if you can still order.

cant wait to get my set. been waiting for like a month now.

KW's go through a salt test too they will hold up well in northern states and use OEM top hats so noise issues either. I'm going to get them next year just installing springs for now.

All the reviews i red about the KW springs pretty much reaffirm what has been said here. They seem to be quite popular, but a bit out of my price range atm. Gotta get a ECU tune first before suspension!

Just keep an eye out in the classifieds there have been one set of KW's listed already there will be more as people want to try out different things.

Not that i doubt the members on our forum, but im somewhat reluctant to buy used suspension online from a third party... I'm a sucker for new parts lol.

Understandable also i have a wholesale account with tirerack that has a very good price on the kw's i'm going to keep an eye on it they put stuff on clearance all the time.
