Car Magazines Shakes Down Toyota 86 at Killarney Track

FT86CLUB Homepage Featured Story

Hi guys, thanks for a wonderful resource on this forum. I work for a Toyota dealer in Durban South Africa, and have got lots of interesting 86 info for our own company blog from here.

There's a very interesting on track 86 video I came across yesterday by our local Car Mag. The test driver struggles to hold back the glee while getting his 86 going sideways on the track. He also make some finer points on what makes the 86 so special from a race drivers perspective. Enjoy!

Quote:
In this new video series, by CARmag.co.za, watch as Deon Joubert takes the Toyota 86, through its paces, at the Killarney Race Track. Watch the enthralling in-car video, and commentary, as Deon attempts to get his 86 going sideways on the bends of Killarney.

Ian McLaren, expresses his concerns to Juliet, on the comparative lack of horsepower when lining up the 86 against the other “hot-hatches” currently out there. But Deon, is having none of that – explaining that from a professional race-car driver’s perspective, it’s not only about the raw firepower, but also how well a car and it’s driver come together, to manuever the car accurately at pace, lap after lap. Deon also makes an excellent point, that with some of the other performance V8′s out there, you almost get the feeling that you’re literally burning up money as you drive, whereas with the 86, you get a similar experience – at a fraction of the cost. He sums the drive up, struggling to contain the grin on his face, “Lots of Fun!”.

Awesome video! I think there were arguments to be made on both sides of the FRS in this video and it was most satisfying to hear from a professional driver's mouth (which I questioned his abilities at first) to say that this car "Is A Great Learning Tool". I've heard this same thing mentioned a lot in many different ways. I'm glad to see someone really "get" the car.

*Edit* The smile on that driver's face shows the true value of this car.

Watching this video just made me get up and look out my window to smile at my fr-s. I love that thing just the way it is... Thank you for inspiring that feeling once again!

Yep - at first, I got a bit concerned when Ian McLaren was putting the car down, but I love the way he was silenced by the actual driver at the end!

awesome vid, but why do they call it the 'eighty-six' instead of 'eight six'. it's unbecoming for so called auto journalists

You need to have done something like ten posts and then a little "thanks" icon appears bottom right of every post you view and you just click on that to thank the poster.

Awesome video. My favorite thing is the driver looks like he came straight out of the woods and they threw a racing suit on him.

I think this is one of my favorite video reviews of the car and its capabilities. The driver is OBVIOUSLY enjoying himself and really hit the nail on the head about being a great car for growing into motorsport.

Should I ever bump into him, I owe Deon (the driver) a beer, and get him to sign the trunk lid of my FR-S. He explained exactly why I love this car.

Completely agree with the race driver's comments!

This is why I have ordered this car. It's not about power and speed, it's a learning tool, it's fun and it's cheap!
