Angry TC activating even when off?

This is seriously frustrating. It seems that even with my driver-aids all off (hold down TC button 5-seconds, 2 lights on cluster) the TC is taking over to some degree when I step the rear out. It seems that unless I fully commit to breaking the rear it will activate and grab.

For example. 2nd gear - turning at 3/4 lock and on the gas - I put the throttle down and steer the ass out. As soon as it breaks the TC light flashes and the car is immediately back in control.

I don't like this. Dafuq Toyota?

Suppose to hold down the TC and the VSC button down for 5 seconds. All 3 lights show up on the gauge at 1st then switch over to just 2 lights on

Might want to get that looked at. In mine I just hold down the trac button for a few seconds and it's fine. I haven't heard of holding them both like Mr.Jay suggested, but I don't have the manual in front of me right now.

edit: stupid question, but are you at a complete stop when you try to turn it off? I know in mine if you shut it off while moving the lights will come on, but it doesn't feel like it's totally gone.

Really? Have I just been holding down a extra button?

I'm going to have to give this a try after work now...

OP, are your two lights both yellow, or yellow and green?

go to your dealer, nothing is supposed to grab if both yellows are on.

yes, you only need to hold down the TC button and wait for both yellow lights to turn on.

VSC is just to turn sport mode on and off.

also, you can do this as the car is moving... i've forgot to turn it off many times at the autocross and had to disable it mid course.

There is at least one report of someone on a track seeing the TC light flash when everything was disabled and feeling like some part of the TC was kicking in. Others have said they have seen the light flash but nothing has really happened with regards to the TC kicking in. I haven't really experienced the car doing anything or I probably wouldn't have spun a couple times that I did.

Its easy to recreate. From a stop do a U-turn even with system off you will get the slip light to flash probably just reporting slip.

Attempted this yesterday and my TC kicks in still when I just hold down the TC light but when I hold both buttons down for 5 secs I don't get the TC interrupting my slides or at least this is what I am noticing.

I also can't fully disable TC when in moving at a quick rate just when I'm putting along can these settings be changed

I've turned off mine mid course in autox as well, and I can confirm it was really off because I immediately went around a 180 degree turn pin sideways in the wet.

k, so

OP and a few others, you guys got faulty cars so go check them out

yesterday i accelerated in 2nd until redline (so roughly 95kph) and during my WOT acceleration i held down the TC button.

In about 3-4 seconds both traction control and vehicle stability control lights went on (meaning they are now disabled)

During subsequent successful attempts at breaking the rear loose produced no flashing lights.

In my opinion and assumptions, this is working as intended.

So either your electronics are malfunctioning or you're doing it wrong.

Remember that pressing TC once and VSC once so that all 3 lights are on does not mean that you have disabled your system!!

That just means that 1) your traction control is off UNTIL you pass 30kph, this option was specifically designed to get out of snow and mud by hammering down and 2) you are now in VSC Sport Mode, which means all the stability nannies (including traction control) are still ON but engage a bit later)
