FT II concept wheels and hub speculation
Ok so i measured the wheel PCD on the FT-86 II concept and to my amazement it came out perfectly to 5x100.
so why is this relevant? because it has production implications. this concept has one off wheels. they could've used whatever they wanted, but they used a 5x100 hub. hmmm... its also not the same hub as the BRZ because that hub has the calipers behind the axle. the BRZ most likely uses an off the shelf WRX hub in the display. the FT II does not because the caliper is in front of the axle. what else has the caliper in front of the axle? the car in the spy pics. also interesting is the fact that the caliper is canted slightly. it doesnt sit exactly in the 3 o'clock position. its like between 2 and 3 o'clock. and this goes for both the concept AND the spy car. hmmm.... what does all of this mean? most likely, the FT II concept is using a close to production hub, with 5x100 PCD. this isnt new as the earliest spy cars wore the forester sti wheels which are 5x100. wheel choices are going to SUCK compared to 5x114.3... the good news? those brembos look quite unique and may possibly be production spec. perhaps as an option as the spy car doesnt have brembos... |

I thought it was known/long assumed that it'd be crap 5x100? I'd also rather have 5x114.3 so I could share track wheels...

yes. that wasnt the main point. the main point was that the concept also wears 5x100 wheels even though as a one off wheel, they could've used anything. so its possible that the concept is using production spec hubs. and whats bolted on to those hubs? the brembos. they use unique looking calipers, regular non drilled/slotted rotors, production sized rotors, and the caliper position matches the spy pics. we may be looking at production spec stuff here. they changed from the advics calipers to the brembos. why? if its a concept, never to see production, why change it at all? and never has any PR guy spoke about the change. only us enthusiasts noticed. so perhaps they changed from concept hubs to production hubs along the way... i really hope those brembos make it to production...

Changing calipers is simple. Brembo makes tons of spec 4 pot calipers. Either make a bracket or just use spacers (or even nothing if it matches) and it would bolt on. Doesn't mean it'll make it to production. Most concepts have such brakes in the stock location that never make it to the production line.
Multiple piston calipers absolutely have advantages, but single pistons do the job just fine.

The RE86 was the first thing I noticed on Tuesday as the pictures were just coming in. I too looked them up because I had a feeling they were one-off.

FYI, that MkII is just a shell. Nothing inside or under the hood.
In Nur they used 5x100 is cuz of wheel spec was limited. iirc PCD114.3 for that wheel spec was 18x8 So to judge right now won't be the right answer for production ver Last edited by ichitaka05; 09-16-2011 at 08:55 PM. |

It kinda makes sense to use this PCD as they can re-use lots of the Impreza/Legacy/Celica parts. Subaru use 5x100 on the Impreza/Legacy. Also Toyota use 5x100 on the Celica (Gen 4-7).
There is plenty of choice for aftermarket wheels available in this PCD - almost as many as 5x114.3. |

I doubt those are even functional calipers (no bleeder for that side), which is one reason they look unique.. no fittings are attached not to say that they CAN'T be functional, but they aren't on the shell.

If it does come with 5x100 i just hope to god that the wheel bearings aren't as shitty as the crap Subaru offers for their impreza's with 5x100. STI 5x114.5 wheel bearings were beefy and gave me better piece of mind especially when selecting wheels.
Having shitty wheel bearings, 5x100 bolt pattern, and a super low offset wheel is a formula for disaster.
