Hi guys,
Does anyone have any suggestions and pricing on BBKs? I have heard AP Racing is the best, but the StopTech kit is like $900 cheaper. Any thoughts? Brembo is just ridiculously overpriced. Secondly, where can you buy in Australia? Cheers |

go second hand brembos from the STI's on ebay... alternatively there's talk of WRX brakes fitting too...
whats your intended usage of them?? Pose or track? As an FYI BBK's generally will negatively impact braking in normal road conditions dependent upon the type of pad you have in them as the hi-po brake pads dont function as well whilst the brakes are cool.. thus if you have to emergency stop after you've just gotten into the car or after you havent had to brake for quite a while (think freeway) you may find you have very little in the way of brakes. |

Out of the grouping of AP Racing, Brembo, StopTech, usually StopTech is the best priced out of the three, very close to AP Racing at times. Of course most of these kits are still in R&D fazes so usually in this instance, pricing doesn't necessarily mean it has been confirmed. Regardless though, If you need more info I can look it up for you if you want to send me a PM

This is super interesting what you just said! I have no interest whatsoever in track or racing, just purely for aesthetics. So you reckon this could be a detriment? |

I would be looking at 2nd Hand STI stuff then. Rumour has it the base of the 86 is actually the hatch/ sedan Imperza. So the STI stuff should bolt on. I have also seen pervious Gen WRX 4 Pots on an 86 as well.
Bare in mind you may need new wheels to clear the brakes. Which I'm sure your doing any way but just make sure the wheels your going for clears them ![]() Just like Ran94a mentioned be very selective on your brake pads make sure they are more street based then track based especially since your not really using it as a hardcore track car.

I'd rate AP and Alcon as the best you can buy. But they're more race setups than street. The hooked patterns do look cool. If you want something that looks good you could use DBA's new drilled and slotted rotors and STI brembos. I'll be doing Wilwood kits locally soon, which should be cheaper than any other kit out there.
In terms of using race brakes on the street, it all comes down to pad choice. You just need something that works well when cold. There's lots of choice out there for pads. |

Yea mate, there's a lot of smoke and mirrors out there about the benefits of doing X,Y,Z but in reality that's vendors trying to get your $'s off you. Things like Ceramic brake pads are great and will stop you much quicker and with less fade PROVIDED you can keep them at the appropriate operating temperate. (IE you see V8 Supercars with glowing rotors) Another thing you will need to consider and i dont have enough technical knowledge in this area is how this may impact ABS... i've seen some very indepth discussion as to the impact BBK may have on ABS systems as some are saying that the ABS is calibrated so it knows the diameter/brakeforce of the hardware stopping the car. How much of this is fact vs opinion i dont know, but i would be investigating heavily before i fiddled with the things that stopped me ploughing into things. My 2C if you're only doing it for looks, go with slotted/drilled rotors and paint your calipers whichever colour you want. Much cheaper and looks the goods. |

TL : DR but essentially it backs up exactly what i've just said... if the BBK is not engineered according to the car's specifications your electronic safety systems will not work correctly. |

also think about caliper weight, added disc weight, added rotational mass, unsprung mass etc.

For aesthetics - calliper covers
http://www.calipercovers.com/_e/dept...Scion_FR_S.htm Assume no need to change wheels etc but you'd want to check. |

Definitely go with @nzer 's site.
lower cost... tough look, doesnt screw your electronic safety systems. and like i said.. add that to some slotted/drilled rotors like: http://www.dba.com.au/products/stree...rmance/x-gold/ and the right kind of brake pads (possibly TRD, but there are many other quality brands.) You may actually find you have a street set up which looks/performs much better than a BBK for a fraction of the price. |

or if you want big brakes.. just put a bigger disc on there and space the caliper out with a dogbone bracket.
