Question Has anyone installed a block heater?

I wasn't sure which sub-forum to slap this one in, so here it is.

Has anyone installed a block heater in their FR-S / BRZ? If so - is it pretty easy with a lift? Do you have any pictures?

Thanks

don't all Canadian cars have them already pre-installed? just like how they included heated mirrors & rubber floor mats. some provinces require them (ie. Alberta).

it also says so according to the Scion.ca site when you build & price an FR-S.

They don't because they have only recently become available. The car beat the part in terms of availability.

Man I haven't used a block heater in a car for...decades...people still use these?

Wasn't sure they were really still needed on modern cars...

Ive been in Edmonton for 5 years now and this is the first time Ive heard we're required to have a block heater!
Also heated mirrors?
Rubber floor mats are a check tho!

Is it a real block heater that goes in a frost plug hole? or a sick on pan heater? The pan heaters are alot easier to intall, but dont do as good a job seeing as it just warms the oil...

It's a real deal frost plugger. I will be installing mine within the next 2 weeks.

Toyota wanted to charged me over 400 dollars + tax for the heater and install quoting be ~2 hours. I bought the heater for $100 and am going to do it myself. It should NOT take 2 hours with a lift. I will post a DIY on here for people.

Terrible.

I put mine in and left it strapped up towards the front of the engine bay. I just pop the hood.

Did they charge you for the block heater? It's listed on Scion Canada as an option.

They called me, and told me they were now available and would be installed no charge. Said it was 2-3 hours labour - they gave me a loaner for the day.

It's strapped to the grill which I don't like, but I can't see a better way other than popping the hood each time.
