FREE ALARM but...
So I was stopped by a guy who works for a big auto electronics company(Viper, Clifford, etc...) and he wants to install a new prototype alarm with all the goodies(remote start/GPS from phone, pager system) for FREE. They need a FRS.
I drop it off at their HQ and pick up later in the day. All I need to do is provide feedback every couple of months. Beta tester basically. He and the company is legit but I don't know if I should do it. I bought the 6yr/75K mile extended warranty and it'll be a add on unit so I wouldnt think that would void the warranty? What are your thoughts? |

Do it. The alarm will not void your warranty unless they install it wrong and burn your car into a pile of melted plastic.

i wouldn't do it, electrical wiring system is a bitch to fix unless they have lifetime warranty and a business that's large/stable enough to last the lifetime of your car.

I'd be skeptical of giving my brand new, highly beloved sports car to anyone claiming to be with any company.

if he works for a big electronics company, then im sure they wont mind whipping up a liability disclaimer on the work they do and the support they will offer while you are testing out their product.

you'd be crazy not to be skeptical
get his name and the company he works for. do your research, ask around, and at the end of the of the day do what you feel in your gut. |

If it's a legit company, have him show you around their facilities and what they plan to do. Like previously said, have them sign a disclaimer if they mess up your car, they are responsible for it.

I have no doubt about the legitimacy of it. Here's the company and he works there for certain. I'm just concerned about warranty.
I'm not worried that they won't support the install either. http://www.directed.com/Brands/ |

this will not void your warranty unless they tap into the ecu. When i bought my car i told the dealer that i have blue lights and will be wiring them into the car, they said it shall not void my warranty.

should do it as long as the guy is legit. That's the most important part.

I agree Directed is a legit company. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to do it, as long as they don't plan to hack up the wiring harness. If they're just doing a little R&D, and you get a nice new alarm out of the deal, I'd definitely do it.

It's on...dropped off the FRS today. No drilling and completely a add-on unit. No driving it around by them, it's in the bay and stays there. They already Beta tested a BRZ with no issues.

Did you read the fine print?
It's probably a "total awareness" tracking device being tested by the NSA. Knows where you go, what you buy, who you see, what you look at, what you are thinking about..... |
