Folks, looked for this on the forums, couldn't find this.

What are the ASR and ASL settings in the base radio?

Actually ASL stand for Age Sex Location...
just kidding its Automatic Sound Levelizer. Thats where the volume goes up the faster you go to overcome road noise.

And ASR is a Sound Retriever. I don't really understand what it does. Its something to do with the recording quality of mp3s

From Pioneer's website:

ASR (Auto Sound Retriever)

ASR sound technology automatically restores the harmonics which were lost during the audio compression process.
ASR adjusts frequency response and sound pressure, especially in the high and low frequency ranges, to revitalise the density and presence of the compressed signal.
The result is an improved sound quality with its staging, density and feeling restored to the level of the original recording.

ASL (Auto Sound Levelizer)

Compensating for additional outside noise, the automatic sound leveliser uses signal processing to automatically and electronically adjust the internal volume so that your music always sounds right.

^ That's because you listen to music too loud and you can not tell the difference.

When you listen to loud music it goes from loud to loud. No difference.

I had to turn mine down I have the radie set at 35-40 and when I jump on the highway the music is blasting.

Thanks folks! I figured one of them would be similar to auto-levelling. Wasn't described in the owners manual for the radio at all though! (Or maybe it was and I missed it... :P )
