Key broke.
What a piece of junk! After only 13 years my key just fell apart.
Which got me wondering. How long does the battery last in the key? Is it plutonium powered? This is the original key. Over 13 years old and the battery is still good. The key doesn't work anymore but the battery is still good. I had to retrieve the stare key I've had hidden under the gas cap. The key works but the battery is dead. Have to manually unlock the driver's door. I guess I'll try to glue the old key back together or get a new battery for the other key. |

Replacement covers are cheap.
And of course the batteries are available at any grocery store. |

Also, don't share photos of your keys online. They can be duplicated fairly easily from the picture. Applies more to house keys than car keys (thanks to immobilizer chips), but still.
Agreed with @Sapphireho that getting a blank key is the best approach (but make sure you get the right number of buttons), although I would definitely have glued the broken key first. |

That key looks like it's put it with more than it's fair share of abuse...

Well, it is 13 years old after all. Must have gone through at least 100,000 cycles. I ended up glueing the broken key back together with superglue. And I got a new battery for the spare key. Good as new. Ready for another 13 years of abuse.

I've had 20 year old key fobs that didn't look that bad. Do you carry it in a pocket full of rocks or something?
