Subaru $50.00 test drive offer/ $500.00 discount card

I received a letter from Subaru corporate marketing offering me $50.00 to come in and test drive any Subaru and a $500.00 discount of any 2012-2013 Subaru except the BRZ.
Did anyone else get this mailer? Is Subaru having a hard time selling their other cars to resort to this type incentive?
I had read that the BRZ stayed on the dealers lot an average of 2-3 days before it was sold. This was supposedly the fastest time in the automobile industry.

The $500 I think is an end-of year push offered as owner loyalty from what I've read.

The $50 probably has more to do with the dealership's marketing company. My dealer was offering $25 gift cards to wal-mart or target...in certain markets I could see that jumping to $50. Other dealers in my area (Mazda, Scion, etc.) were offering variations on the gift cards (Lowe's, American Express cash card) but from the "test drive" window that pops up when you navigate to their site, it's the same marketing company.

I know manufacturers put bigger incentives on leftover year models when the new year models are released but this offer was good on new 2013's also, just not the BRZ. I do not and have never owned a Subaru. I just requested info 4-5 months ago on the BRZ.

The mailer was from Subaru corporate not from a local dealer and the offer was valid at any dealer nationwide.

It's targeted and mailed to previous Saturn and Saab customers...since they won't be buying a new Saturn or Saab...and have similar demographics to Subaru.

The Impreza is staying on the lot for ~5 days on average, too. Subaru posted record sales last year, they're definitely having no trouble selling cars!

My toyota dealer had/has a promo where if you test drive a car, you can win up to $1,000. There's another "contest" that isn't really known and has better odds, but it's a similar concept. There's a 12x12 grid (or something like that, maybe bigger) and only 1 box is the $1,000. Most are $10, some are $20, a few are $50, and even less are $100. No matter what, it's a guaranteed $10
