Control music with voice commands? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Can anybody use voice commands to play particular songs off their phone? (mp3s, not streaming apps).
As per the list of commands in the owner manual, I try use the "Play song <song>" or "Play artist <artist>" commands, but it keeps saying "No media device selected". I've tried whilst being connected via bluetooth and also via Android Auto. I'm able to play music fine through both, it's just the voice commands not working.

Voice commands work for other things like maps.

Hopefully someone with a non-US model will be able to help. Ours doesn't have navigation and sounds like it is pretty bare-bones compared to what is offered in the Australian market. I always use Android Auto or Carplay for the functions you mention.

You need to use Android Auto, then press and hold the voice command button instead of tapping it to get google assistant instead of the subaru voice commands.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that method. I have all the voice stuff disabled on my phone, but I guess I could turn it on before a road trip or something.
It does bug me though that the manual clearly has the list of commands and it doesn't indicate anything about it being reliant on your phone's voice assistant. It does say not all functions might be supported, and confirming if they are can be done by checking if they are on the voice help screen, which they are.
