Saying "Thank you" to your parents

I know the world is filled with some good spirit and is not tainted completely by greed and self-absorption. I was wondering how many of you have repaid your parents in some way, shape, or form and what you did as a way to say "Thank you!"

My brother and I are planning on buying our parents a house to retire in (or help to get one) and also get my father a car he will enjoy. My parents have always been willing to make sacrifices on their part to try and make my brother's and my life a little bit easier/nicer. We now want to make theirs a little nicer. Our planned gifts are a little...ambitious, but we will try our hardest.

It does sound a bit ambitious.

I don't even know if I'll ever own a house, let alone buy someone else one.

I'll buy my parents dinner from time to time, or Starbucks...but there was this one time...

When they were in some financial trouble I gave them quite a bit of money (as a coincidence my wife and I had moved back in for a month while finding a place to rent) but my dad was upset, and didn't want to accept the money. They (my mom) eventually did, but it was a drop in the bucket for all of the things they have done for me over the years.

So there's no way I could ever come close to repaying them, so I don't really try. I just help them out when they ask and of course they do the same. And when I have kids I will try to be as selfless as they were/are.

But honestly my parents (as I'm sure most feel) don't expect anything from me...well except for maybe a grand-baby. :/

Hats off to you for doing this for your parents. To me my parents are the world...i've seen the struggles growing up and doing their best to provide a good life for me. They always held odd jobs here and there and at times held multiple jobs. They never complained to the kids about the hardships and how tired they were.

Now all grown up and making good money myself I support them in any way they need. They currently live with me since I bought a house couple of years ago. They never ask for money but I always try to take them out to dinner or small vacations and let them try things they never had time to do while raising the kids.

Again, im am glad to see more ppl who support their parents...lately it seems many kids run off to college and are never to be seen after that...

Nice to read those. :happy0180:

Costs would be split two ways, so it wouldn't be AS bad...but realistically, we could probably only afford a car and some money towards a house. Right now we're both single, but I'm sure priorities will change once we have our own families.

My parents never ask for much, and I'm sure dinner (a small, but nice gesture) would make them just as happy. Probably even more so to see us raising a family and get settled down... But for now, I want to shoot for the stars.
