Is it worth paying €5,000 for wheels + brakes improvement in the purchasing process?
Hello everybody,
In Spain the GR86 reservation is going to be different from the rest of the world, they are only going to sell the base version (due to emission penalties) but in exchange they are going to offer 2 packs as extra (from Toyota Spain, we do not even know if the extras are aftermarket or official GR parts.) -The first one will be 18" aluminium wheels + PS4S Wheels 225/40 + GR pads for 2500€. -The second one is 18" forged wheels + Michelin Sport Cup 2 225/40 wheels + 4 piston front brakes + drilled discs for 5000€. I wanted to ask you, since you have been using the car for some time in the forum, do you think it is worth buying the packs (beyond aesthetics) for a use outside the circuit? do you consider that the car needs that improvement? I repeat a occasional use of the car with some cornering route and at most 1 or 2 times a year circuit. Thank you! |

Seems very odd that they wouldn't sell the premium version due to emissions? Maybe I just don't understand, but mechanically there is no difference I can see that would lead to emissions differences?
You will be loosing the adaptive headlights, heated seats, ducktail and upgraded interior trim though.. I'm not clear what the cost of aftermarket wheels tires, etc are in your market. But unless you are really in love with design they are offering, I'd assume you'd be better off buying aftermarket wheels and tires yourself. Most who have experience with these cars on track seem to agree that upgraded pads and fluid are sufficient for occasional track use. Who is upgrading the front brakes in the second package? Dealer? Importer? I'd be concerned that the proper R&D to maintain brake balance is not being done, but a lot of people swap brake without taking this into consideration.. |

Auto's weigh even more, but get better MPG ratings, not sure how that plays out.. I'm pretty sure I'd skip given the cost and the sketchy details.. |

If interested in such extras find out what they would cost to do yourself before paying a dealership for them. Those prices seem very high for what you are getting.

5k for forged wheels and bbk is about right in north America. The thing is, they are offering you 18"s so you will be running tires with less sidewall. That will equate to poorer ride and risk of tire/wheel damage if you have poor roads.

None of those offered mods are necessary for an adequate circuit trip or two.
Even the base spec is a superb vehicle. Get you some of that!

Get you a base, improve pads and tires on your own. Probably cheaper, though I'm not sure on penalties in Spain regarding vehicle parts and what not.

And are 215 tyres enough or do you recommend going with 225? Always bearing in mind that I am a novice so my driving is not going to be at the limit and i don't care about times Last edited by Grems; 11-09-2022 at 04:03 PM. |
