Anyone hear which ST(?) Solo class yet?

Hey guys,

I've been searching around the interwebs and I haven't seen anything official yet. Has anyone heard if they have decided on an ST_ class yet, or do you think they'll wait till next year at this point?

They haven't announced it yet. Don't expect to hear anything until after Nationals.

Mainly the cars you're in the class with. Tire limit is narrower in STR.

I really like how diverse STX has become, with a lot of good drivers. Be fun to be a part of that.

The usable tire width (and car prep in general) is going to be pretty much the same regardless of STX or STR. You could run a 265 in STX but I don't see it as being worth the gearing and weight hit.

I wrote my letter yesterday in support of STX. The FRS/BRZ has the dimensions and weight of an S2K with roughly the power of the MX5 - the worst of both worlds. And it has worse suspension design than both, all else being equal. Having run an MX5 in STR in 2011, that was enough of an uphill battle. You need a really well developed car (i.e. Max's) and some course dependency on your side - it's not a wheels > suspension > win affair like it is with the S2K. It's dumb easy to get the speed out of an S2K in STR and I just don't see the FRS/BRZ being the same. But that's just me.

The other thing is there are cars just as big of threat to the RX8 regime in STX that simply haven't been explored yet. An ITR on 195 Toyos with the right driver would clean up, as would the right 2.5L WRX. IMO, after the Civic got banned from STX, someone decided the RX8 was the STX easy button, so everyone went that route without much regard for all the unexplored potential in that class.

I currently have an NB Miata(01') that I ran in STR one time and got stomped by S2000's. I am trading in/selling that car for my FR-S that I have on order.

I usually run local clob autocrosses because SCCA was wayyyyyyy too serious in STR for me the time I tried it. My thought process with the FR-S is that I may do more SCCA events if I have a shot at being competitive. I am still working on being a better driver of course as well.

I think STR would be a good fit, the car seems like it would be competitive with S2000's on paper. Do you think STX is a better home because STR would be too much of an uphill battle from the start? Do you think the variety in STX would make it more fair?

STR sounds about right. I'm sure with the allowed mods an FR-S/BRZ could *probably* keep up with the S2Ks. And at least in the Dallas area, there are some insanely STR guys who would definitely raise my game.

STR is extremely competitive in my area; with events normally exceeding 20 drivers (second only to RTR,) most of which are S2000's.

Having driven a MX5 in STR and CS before, I feel the FRS is better suited in STX. I have already submitted my letter stating the same.

The RX7, 280ZX, and 911 had back seats on some models/years.

I sent a letter asking it to be classed in STX even though I'm running the car in CS. At some point the itch for more power might have to be scratched.

The car is popular enough I don't see how they won't put it in STX. I really do not think it is an overdog and it would not be conpetitive in STR against the S2000s even if people were able to get 200+ WHP out of then.
