2015 BRZ oil
What brand and viscosity synthetic oil would you recommend in my 15 brz?
I don't track the car but I do drive hard occasionally. I know the manual says 0w-20 and I'm fine with that. What about a brand? Mileage is 51,000 miles. Thanks. Last edited by av8rdav; 02-20-2022 at 08:36 PM. Reason: added mileage. |

In Nor Cal it doesn’t get super cold so any good 0-20 or 5-30 synthetic is fine. Mobil 1, Motul, etc. there are a lot of good ones.

Over here in cold sweden, my local Toyota/Subaru shop (official) only puts subaru 5w30 oil in the 86/BRZs, im haven't concluded if its because they use it for every other subaru, or if they do it for a reason.

You know enough about the internet to add an avatar picture, but you can't google this and read the few dozens other threads about this

Sorry if I took up a couple minutes of your precious time. But you clicked my post, so.... I didn't find much on google. Reason I ask is I changed oil and used Valvoline 0w-20 and the engine is noisier now. |

Spelling isn't my strong suit. Then again neither is reading, or math, or social skills.

![]() any brand specifications beyond that is like arguing ford vs. chevy vs. dodge. i use castrol. because pennzoil bothers me with the double 'n' and the 'z', valvoline reminds me of the crappy quick-change place in the town i grew up in, and my grandfather uses quaker state which reminds me of the amish for some reason.

Same here in Poland. According to manual 5w30 is fine anyway so it's nothing to worry about I guess.

Any modern synthetic will be fine really. If you want to get into it though go look at used oil analysis and see what people are running.

Castrol Edge is the superior brand. 0w20 synthetic all day for my '15 FR-S. If you search forums everyone has an opinion, same as here, and some people swear by 5w30 for boosted/track cars and most will tell you that 0w20/30 is preferred for daily driving. The main argument that I've seen (as far as your comment on engine noise) is that it's because of the thinness of 0w20 and risks heavier wear. Which is bullsh*t considering the quality/chemistry of synthetic 0w20 is not going to allow for extra wear and wouldn't be recommended if there were anything to back that.
