Has anyone seen anything yet or knows of any products for first generation that will fit the new car?

When I was thinking about getting one for the 1st gen I was told by many independent sources to not buy an off-the shelf "bolt in" half-cage, but instead get a weld-in custom one.

Full cage or none.
There is no in between.

Bolt in are actually stronger and some welded it are bolted first before welding and boxing. This is given the base plate are adequate, and most are not (cusco and al aren't OK). Autopower can be made safe with larger base plates.

Of note that our cars are much safer in rollovers than older cars where we used to put roll bar and cages in... and you will not get much rigidity from it...so how good of a buy is it really.

I am pretty sure 1st gen would fit.

I went with their weld in kit for my first gen so that I can do larger base plates and distribute potential load over a wider area.

Depends on construction and if it's bolted to the right places, using high grade hardware, and mounted properly in double shear.

You can go to YouTube and see plenty of videos of bolt-in, 4pt bars surviving and protecting the driver in Miata's. And those don't have the extra roof structure. And NA's were also designed back in the late 80s and don't have nearly advanced crash structures as modern cars.

Being that he was in 4th gear means he likely lost the in 85-95 mph range.

And then you have this as an example of janky shop, using single shear, poor quality hard, not mounted in the correct places. You can actually see where the main hoop mounts punched through the floor.

Also a good example of if you are going to spend that money on a seat and cage buy a HANS. That hurt my neck watching that.
