Track Insurance Claims Experience
Looking to see if anyone has put a claim in when they had track insurance after they damaged their car on track and what their experience was with it?
I myself have never put in a claim for damage to my car through track insurance, although I have been thinking about this recently as my experience with claims on other types of insurance have been terrible. These include claims to shipping companies and regular car insurance. So anyone who has put in a claim to track insurance after some kind of incident did they actually pay out the amount you set before the event (minus deducible of course)? Was there a bunch of hidden fees after the fact for some sort of nonsense? How many hoops did they make you jump through in order to get them to pay? Is one company better than another? |

I have not personally, but I think you'll find some information on the Rennlist performance driving forum.

A friend recently totaled his m3 at a track and it seems like it's a mostly smooth experience. If he didn't get insurance he'd be out like 60k.

If you go with a reputable insurance like Hagerty it should be smooth. Remember you are still responsible for the deductible.. which can be 10-20%

If this is in regards to HPDE, to me, it seems like a waste of money unless you're an inexperienced driver that drives over the limit of your abilities. In that case spend your money on coaching. With the high deductibles you'd have to really do some serious damage to make it worthwhile.

Do they not also cover damage to the track or other vehicles? Track fees can get costly rather quickly, depending...

It's up to each person. The general rule from our local SCCA racers is that you shouldn't take any car to the track that you wouldn't mind losing. If you go by that then insurance doesn't make sense.
Keep in mind that even at a HPDE there are also other cars on track with you. Insurance doesn't just cover you if you do something stupid but also covers you if someone else does something stupid. Track cleanup is also very expensive. If you have enough disposable income that you're not worried about it then insurance is probably not for you. If the cost for a day's insurance + deductible is the max you want to lose if something does go wrong then you should probably consider it. This is really not a complicated conversation. |

Autocross, but a friend of mine totalled a c6 and got his check for stated value minus deductible super quick. Much better than a typical claim on the street. Lockton.

I was insured under Lockton and totalled my FR-S at Summit Point. Dealing with Lockton was a really great experience, 100% worth it and I recommend it to anyone doing HPDE in a car that's got any real value. No hidden fees, no extra hoops, they paid out what my insured amount was minus deductible (and how much I paid to buy my car back since I wanted it). I've spoken to two other people who had a car totalled with Lockton insurance who had similarly good experiences.

It's dependent on the value of your car, and Open Track won't insure anything below $25k value. For two BRZs roughly valued at $25k (including upgrades ie MCS) it was $3,500 a year. And yes it's 'unlimited', as many as you want as long as the track is sanction by a legit motorsports body. I think Open Track also has 'bundles' where they will sell you 6 track days at a time with a slight bulk discount.
