Spare tire in limited models?

Saw a video clip from an Australia release yesterday and noticed that it had a spare in the trunk. I think it was a Limited version, also noticed from the online BRZ owners manual that the specs list a spare tire tire size under the 18” wheel section. Makes me wonder if those with Limited are going to get a spare, those with Premiums get a repair kit? Anyone else noticed this?

Lol at having your manual torquing checked by a shop or dealer. From what I have seen they always use uncalibrated air hammers when mounting a wheel and never a torque wrench. Probably why my front rotors got warped, overtorqued.

Yeah its also on the online configurator.

What's interesting in your image is that no BRZ comes with the 17 inch wheels in Australia. Where was that video from?

Both the Coupe and Coupe S come with 18's. We don't really have a bottom spec.

I saw this in the attached BRZ spec sheet. In the US we are all getting a tire repair kit.

Tires Premium: 215/45 R17 87W summer performance
Limited: 215/40 R18 85Y Michelin® Pilot® Sport 4 summer performance
Both trim levels feature tire repair kit

I hope that is wrong. No spare tire is a pain in the ass. If that is the case I may buy one. Not cool Subaru.

It’s not just Subaru. I think they are all going to a can of Fix-A-Flat.

Judging from saluki89's post, the spare tire is the SAME SIZE as the regular tires - not a donut(!) If that's true then the only difference might be a cheaper wheel. Not sure how much of a problem a directional spare would be.

This is a spare I found on the net that is supposed to work. But I am hoping for a real Subaru spare.

On road trips, the time one might want a spare tire the most -- also taking up X% of trunk space right when you want that maximized too.

This is a spare that should fit in the spare well under the trunk. That is my hope anyway.

35 pounds isnt going to change anything. That's a little more than 1 percent of the weight of the car.

Thanks, I learned something. So, there's a well, even if Subaru does not supply a spare tire in it. The decision remains whether to utilize that space for a spare, or additional storage space; I swear I saw somewhere once a round piece of luggage designed to fit a spare well.

You know, as we're 100% certain to get a trailer hitch anyway -- I could rig a Continental Kit!

I think Toyota might still be the only one to offer spares (and they're moving away from them too)
The other funny thing is that a lack of spare tire is supposed to increase trunk space, but the spare tire well is almost always filled up with a foam block with the fix-a-flat kit and other items and that extra space is just gone lol.

but i guess weight reduction is also a benefit.
