rebuild 2013 scion fr-s engine still knocking?
Please help >.<
I have had my engine rebuilt by changing the short block due to the infamous issue with these engines going bad. Just like many other frs/brz 2013/14 owners, after i got my car back from the engine valve spring recall it went bad. For mines, since i baby it too much i barely drove it, and the problem came after 1year. It had a rod knock. I had second/third/fourth/ opinions with the diagnose and they all said the same. And then, I had it fixed by replacing the short block. Now my question is with this video Im going to attach. Do i still have a knock? please watch the whole 28 seconds as i move the phone around. |

A few questions: How many miles on the new block? Do you have any power mods? Have you tracked the car with this engine? To me, it doesn't sound like a rod knocking, it sounds more like a valve tappet out of spec. Others will chime in soon. Good luck. |

Yo, @Ultramaroon - this fellow @jjswamp , needs some help. What do you hear?
He says the block has about 10,000 miles on it; he hasn't tracked it; no power mods. Others? Where is everybody? - |

Would be inclined to agree, I don’t think it’s rod knock, sounds more like the valve train, I would not be surprised if your valves are out of tolerance, having built the valve train on an FA20 it’s a time consuming meticulous job and “close enough” is not good enough. Either way I think your going to have to strip the heads to find your problem, and hopefully it’s not a bent valve.

I agree. If it has sounded like that since the first startup, it just needs properly shimmed.
