Jackson Racing oil cooler installation issue/question

Hi everyone - I am in the process of installing a JR oil cooler in a normally aspirated FR-S. My issue relates to the two sandwich plates and the extension (approx 3 in. pipe) that runs through them. I have the two plates properly oriented with their o-rings properly installed. When I fully tighten the extension pipe that runs through them and holds them down, I can turn them side-to-side (rotate them) pretty easily by hand. I had expected that they would be tight.

When I put an oil filter on, and tighten it down, it tightens everything up, so this might be how it is expected to be when installed properly, but I was surprised that the sandwich plates were not very tight when the extension pipe is fully tightened down.

Just checking to see if this is expected/normal or not. Thanks in advance.

I can’t remember if mine turns easily with the filter removed, but I can tell you that the torque spec for the adapter bolt is 25 ft/lb (I don’t think it was listed in my installation manual).

As long as the the torque is adequate and the spacer is correctly oriented so that the o-rings are engaged I would think it should be fine, it should be pretty immediately apparent if anything is leaking. Hopefully someone can give more direct insight on the feel/movement of the plates.

Thank you. It's torqued at least to that, but the torque is tightening the extension pipe to the original oil filter stud, rather than the sandwich plates. It seems to be working fine, torquing it down with the oil filter 1 1/4 turns past where it first touches the top sandwich plate.

Edit: Jackson Racing told me that it's OK.
