Question if going FI, would you turbocharge or supercharge?

Just wondering on people's personal preferences on whether they would turbo or super charge their 86

If I was faced with a choice between two proven FI kits, i think i'd be taking the SC option

More kick down low - more useful for the day to day stuff. Fill dat torque hole ~4k!

Having said that, the turbo kit from the AP guys in the US sounds bonkerssss.... I'd prefer that over supercharger whine anyday lol

Won't be going for FI anytime soon though... loving that NA engine note!

turbo for sure. On the stock engine something like a GT28RS will spool instantly and crap all over any supercharger setup.

Id go SC as well, better in terms of "lag" as its direct power in lower rpms, however there is some debate on what SC to go with eventually, reading around it seems the 2 bigger contenders are HKS and Bullet, i like the bullet sc cause it uses the original airbox which has its benefits IMO, but what do u guys think? It does look (excuse the language) F***ing huge in top of the boxer engine.... Anyone also know anything on raptor sc's? I read many posts from hks and its very promising...

Anyone else got a opinion on hks vs bullet?

Turbo, no reason in particular though. Don't care heaps either way. Depends on cost, reliability, performance increase.

What are the other options, is it possible to get more power without forced induction from an NA engine, apart from tuning? What do you have to do to the engine to make it rev to 9000 and make ~230whp without using a turbo/supercharger?

Ahhhh good ol' generalisations. It would not spool instantly and "any supercharger setup"? How do you know this? Has every supercharger option been developed yet?

Thanks for raising that but I wanted some updated thoughts from downunder. Also seeing the developments of the hks and bullet sc and turbo kits from other tuners.. the posts you mentioned are mainly Americans. I'd rather have ideas from locals as experiences in conditions, costs, etc differ.

Sure sure sure. I appreciate some people may want more power. Maybe I interpreted your question incorrectly. Maybe it should have read "If you were going FI which would you choose?" because not everyone is going fi.

If I were going down the fi route I would like a twin screw 'charger.

My only personal supercharger experience has been with the 8.9:1 compression 4agze, TRD Supercharger for 1zzfe, rotrex supercharger on a 2zzge and the TRD Aurion with TVS charger.

I've changed the chargers out on the 4agze,1zzfe and 2zzge for turbo setups and gained response, torque and power through the whole range, along with lower IAT's and increased knock threasholds.... but thats just my personal experience

The turbo setups were always more expensive, but well worth the extra $ in my opinion. I'm still waiting to get my hands on a decently priced 2GR to put into something and add a 0.82 rear GT35R for awesome low down response and expect huge topend gains also.

I had a supercharged NA6,, and that was crazy fun. the lowdown punch and the whine from the supercharger was intoxicating.

This thread is clearly for people to discuss SC vs Turbo?

For me it's mostly a question of stealth, turbo install suits my needs much better.

I will be going for a system similar to what AVO is working on. They haven't announced their turbo .. and I'm interested in how their UEL header goes. I like their placement and oem style piping though so I'll prob use their kit as a base even if I need to make some changes to header/turbo (gt28).
