AIM Display Wiring Help
I bought a AIM MXM display and just have a few questions from those that know anything about wiring and stuff so I don't burn down my car.
My plan is to remove the 12v cigarette port in the glovebox and wire the 12v switch and ground wires from the dash to those wires on that connected to the 12v cigarette port. The fuse there is 15amp and I believe the dash pulls less than an amp. I guess my question is, is this an appropriate spot to wire the power and ground to? Looks like the wires coming from the display harness is small like 18gauge. Would that be fine hooking up to the wires for the 12v port? Not a fan of tap a fuse since I can't use the fuse box cover nor do I want to tap a line. Since I don't use the 12v in the glovebox, I would rather route it over there and use deutsch connectors for the connection. I should be fine right? |

normally, that would be a fine spot to grab power. though just keep in mind, if you have a engine stall/etc on the track, that power port defaults to being off, meaning that your mxm is going to be reset. maybe this isn't going to be a problem for you, but it's just the first consideration i thought of in such a situation.
could run a new fused wire off the battery for that, if that's easier for you than tapping into existing circuits. or, if you won't be using the radio in the vehicle, you can purchase an aftermarket radio harness, and it will allow a plug-n-play connection to the power connections in the radio harness(same circuit as the cigarette lighters i believe).

Try one of these at the fuse block inside the passenger compartment. |
