Toyota 86 airbag

I bought a salvaged Toyota 86 with minor cosmetic damage and only one airbag rupture which was of the steering wheel. I knew I needed to replace the airbag and reset the module. When I sent my https aka ms remoteconnect module to be reset the shipping company lost it so I had to buy a new one. I just received my new one from an 86 which had no airbag rupture. I am told that you need to program new ones to work with your specific car by some, however, others say that is unnecessary and can pretty much be plug and play is this true?

This is way above my level of knowledge, but I’m sure someone in here will know. Are you planning to keep the car stock or modify it? If it’s going to be mostly a track car maybe you could get a non-airbag wheel?

I feel like no one in their right mind is going to go near that question with a 10 ft pole, in case an inflator goes off in your face while installing/driving or if you're in an accident later and it fails to deploy, etcetc.

There are just too many variables.

Take it to a reputable shop, maybe even the stealership in this case, and let them deal with it. Safety devices like the air bag are not worth bodging.

They are plug and play, no programming necessary. Just be sure the part number you are installing is the exact same as what came out. Install with negative cable disconnected.

Well I stand corrected (...probably :P). Just remember to carry the airbag module with the metal case DOWN. Lots of people hold it the other way thinking they'll be safer if it blows with the airbag away from them, but the worry is that it might blow near a bench or the car itself and send the metal case up into your face. Been a while but I'm pretty sure that means you want the Toyota logo facing up.

At least with the METAL CASE DOWN it would just push away from your face and knock your arms back...

Good luck, and really, consider paying someone else to do it...
