Is this site dead or do people just not care about the twins as much anymore?
I've been here for many years now, and seems like the amount of content and enthusiasm for the platform has really died off since the beginning except for the select few. I don't even see many new people on here asking stupid repeated questions as much. You guys think everyone has just moved to facebook/another site, or do you think that the twins just aren't as popular these days?

I think that after over 8 years with no significant model changes and a handful of "special editions" that really aren't that special, it's pretty remarkable this forum is as active as it is, even discounting the "social" threads that have nothing to do with the car.
So, no I don't think this site is even close to dead. It will pick up again if/once the GEN2 is released.

I agree, everything that just bolts onto the car has been discussed ad nauseum, so that just leaves social discussions and crazy builds that are pretty rare to begin with. The second gen would give us plenty of new discoveries to make and tinkering to do. The first couple of years of a car are always the most exciting for the forums. |

You also need to remember that this forum and platform has had above average aftermarket and vendor support. A flood of new parts and R&D, trial and error. Just look at the 30+ odd FI kits made for our cars in the first 6 years! That is huge! The Gen1 is at the end of it's life span. New investments and developments in the platform are mostly gone with a large chunk of the companies even turning over to the shiny new Supra. With next to nothing being released on the 2nd generation of the car (if covid didn't kill it) and nothing relatively new being done with the chassis it will be slower than it's been. While I miss the tons of new things to read I definitely don't miss the hundreds of post on crickets and ethanol-free fixes each week. I do love seeing some of the earlier adopters of the platform return to it after years out off the forums. It really just reinforces what we love about these cars.

Forums in general are "dying" because a lot of people moved to social media platforms that make it easier to spew random stream of consciousness derp directly from their phones.
I don't know what this place was like in the past, but it seems pretty active to me and gets a lot more posts and traffic than some other forums I am active at. |

I hope there will always be enthusiasm for the twins, 1st and (hopefully) 2nd gen both. Like was mentioned before it’s still surprisingly active on here for a 8+ year old platform, maybe not as much as several years ago. The 2nd gen will inject a lot of life back into the forums for sure. There will be 1st gen owners switching to the 2nd gen, and new adopters to the platform altogether. I still geek out on here with the wealth of knowledge about the twins, especially the suspension tuning and forced induction topics.
I think our cars will always be a source of affordable sports car fun, even many more years from now. They hold up so well and aren’t too complex to work on. It’s inevitable the 2nd gen will incorporate a lot of new features, and more complexity. I almost wonder if Subaru and Toyota will take more of a AP1 to AP2 S2000 approach with the 2nd gen. I guess you could argue they’ve already done that from the changes made in 2017 and now 2020 models. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Seems pretty busy to me although admittedly alot of the same folks who have been here for awhile and constantly active on the forum. Still a regular stream of new or returning owners to the platform. I think as cars move away from fun machines to appliances even further we will continue to see newcomers and a resurgence in drivers cars. there will always be a place for cars like the twins, miatas, s2000's and such.

Now look, and all that’s going on in that section is the same UEL thread for the past however many years. Also, when the car came out, the popularity was really high, so there were large waves of new users that came in, posted, and then left as they sold/traded their cars. Now most of the people that are left are some of the long time (OG) users, and people who have more recently purchased one within the last couple years. Of course with a variety of others too. Hell, there are people still active on this forum who sold their car YEARS ago and bought something else lol.
