How long do you think my engine will last?
What do we think folks?
2019 86 with about 7.5k miles. Current mods are N1 cat back and stage 1 tune. Have Borla UEL catless and stage 2+ waiting to go on, had the parts for like 7 months - I’m just lazy. Planning to go lightweight build and skip FI. I drive the hell out of my car, a lot of highway driving, 40-60mph and I’d say nominally 60-70% of the time I row 1st-3rd gear to redline getting up to speed assuming I’m not stuck behind someone else. I revmatch/heel-toe downshift probably 90% of the time. I’m hoping to get at least 80k miles out this engine before rebuild/swap the way I drive, 100k or more would be outstanding. So given these details, how long do you think my engine will last? How do you drive your cars? |

It doesn't seem like you're really beating on your car compared to some of the people who track their cars hard and have north of 100k miles. There's also no reason to assume your engine would fail as long as you maintain it properly.

It will last until it breaks. Not one minute shorter or longer.

At 82,186, your battery will be shot.
At 139,203 miles, your clutch will need to be replaced. at 273,869 miles, alot of your gaskets will be worn down and you'll start seeing oil leaks and such. At 345,876 miles, some catastrophic failure will occur and you'll need to replace all the major components. And at exactly 415,986 miles you will need a new engine block. |

Hah! Your car is already broken.
In reality, these cars were made to be beat on. Just let it warm up properly, use good gas, and oil. These cars just seem to have issues randomly. There isn't much correlation to how they were used. |

Maintenance and letting it warm up before beating on it is much more important than how you drive it.
These engines should do 300k easy. |

I have a 2013 and drive it hard most of the time. I do regular oil changes and use high quality fuels. I will also tune it for e-85 occasionally. The engine and trans seem pretty well made. I am pretty sure you'll be fine for a long time.

Your engine is likely to last longer than you will have the car. Just make sure you let it warm up before running it out, use the appropriate octane gas, and perform recommended maintenance on time.

Keep on top of your fluid changes and it'll be good. If you want it to last forever, no mods and keep stock tune

cars are like any other relationship. some of them like when you beat on them, but it's about how you take care of them when they're not asking for it that makes for long term reliability.
if you use it, abuse it, and ignore it, things will fall apart sooner rather than later.

kidding.. see how things can be taken so out of context .. change the oil frequently if nothing else. I wouldn't go over 5k without changing mine .. generally do it after three (I live in HEAT). Is there anybody who doesn't drive the hell out of this thing? In fact, I'm pretty sure it's not good for it to be driven all the time like a Sunday morning cruise to church either. |
