Anyone been to the Hutchinson Island Race Track across the bridge from Savannah? I've been trying to find out if it's open to the public. I'm only ninety minutes away.

It is not open to the public. It's now a golf course. The local SCCA used to have autocrosses in the old paddock area, so check their schedule to see if that still happens.

At one time, shortly after the grand prix, it was fun to go out and play. Nowadays, since people have injured themselves in late-night shenanigans, you could round a bend and find yourself staring at concrete barriers.

The red and white curbing is still there and makes for cool photos. You can see it without accessing the closed area. Go past the hotel to the end of the road. Creative photos can be had.

The paddock area is still used by the local SCCA autocross chapter (Buccaneer region) and for the past few years, the track itself has only been used once a year as part of the Hilton Head Motoring Festival & Concours d'Elegance.

The track is also considered a County road, so there is a speed limit posted on it (30 mph if I remember correctly) and it is patrolled.

I know that the BMWCCA ran a race there last year. Roebling Road is where you should go though. It is one of the oldest tracks in the country, and I have enjoyed my three times there.

Didn't know there was another track around there, cool! If it were open, it doesn't look like you would want to screw up, walls and armco everywhere!
