White 86 - colour difference between front bumper and rest of the body
G'day folks,
Is anyone else (especially if you have already taken delivery) bothered by the slight colour difference between the front bumper and the rest of the car? Seems to me it really stands out on the white - admitedly I've only seen one car in the wild, the rest are photos, but it seems very noticable to me and kinda grinds me. What do the owners say? Does Opti-Coat help? Cheers |

I haven't noticed any colour difference on mine :/
What do yu mean by slight differences? Is the bumper a lighter/darker? Less glossy?

I noticed the difference on my aurion. Paint on plastic vs metal
Mainly in the sun. I've seen most of the colours on the 86 and didn't notice it. Drooling over the rest of the car instead I guess

Hey Guys,
Thought I would chime in. On Japanese and Korean built cars there is nearly always a slight difference between the true colour of the paint when applied to a plastic bumper compared to a metal body part. Sometimes its hardly noticeable sometimes there is a small but still what significant difference. I see this alot whilst detailing. I am not saying that Japanese or Korean is sub standard quality but they use a different Standard as Japan uses JIS-4/6(I believe) as their painting standard/guideline. This can result in thinner coats to save weight/cost as opposed to say a German made car, this is what can result in the slight difference in hue. |

This is actually something I examined (albeit under the dealer's fluro lighting) before accepting delivery. Neither I nor the gf were bothered. I can't say I notice it in real-world conditions, either. But, then again, we're always on the inside looking out and since we've never seen another white one, probably not particularly well based to comment. I'm also not nearly as chromatically talented as some.
Oh, and fwiw, no one else has commented negatively. But then again, unless they were somewhat psycho, they probably wouldn't make an effort to do so. Anyway, as requested, that's the best feedback I can give.

Haven't even noticed this... but then again I don't have the best attention to detail (or any actually).

I can see it on my wifes Mazda 2 Genki, but its just not as noticable to me.
I think Euro cars generally do a better job with colour matching plastic vs metal parts. For the 86/BRZ, I find I really notice the mismatch on photos of the white cars, while not so much on other colours. |

usually lighter colours get effected by this more than darker colour.
when i bought my odyssey, i realised the white and silver suffer this so i got dark blue. |

Older Camry's in America were notorious for this. It looks like they all had their bumper replaced with a different color, it's that bad. Why is it so hard for them to get it right?

this has been normal since time began
everyone has different eyes cameras may not pick it up it may be more noticeable at different times of the day or in natural or artifical light the paint adheres to plastic and metal differently, primer is different too toyota will tell you the same thing as they can't do anything about it |
