Is it okay to run 255/40 front 255/35 rear?

I have a set of wheels all wrapped around in 255/40/18 but only two of them needs to be replaced
Ideally I want to have 255/35 all around but can i get away with just replacing the 2 bad tires with 255/35 and put it in the rear while keeping 255/40 on the front?
When 255/40 wears down ill replace them with 35s...

And lastly if im only gonna replace 2 tires should i put 35 front 40 rear? Or 40 front 35 rear?
Thank you!!!

If budget is you only concern, then yes you can keep your old tires on the back and get new ones for the front.

If you care about the tires being the correct diameter, then the 255/40 is 5.7% larger diameter than oem. This is outside the generally accepted plus or minus 3% diameter difference that's allowable.

Don't leave the taller tires on the front, it will look stupid. Many staggered setups have a larger diameter rear tire, though normally it's pretty close to the same as the front.

Also, don't mix tire brands. There are a bunch of threads where people have, and their cars traction control turns on at the weirdest times. I mixed brands and experienced this. Meaning, buy two more of the tires you have just in the 35 series. Or, if you want different tires, bite the bullet and buy four matching tires.

Good luck!!!

This is all you'll encounter as an issue.
