Need insight on leak and TOB issues
Well I finally dropped my trans (67k miles) to figure out my squeak. It had gone away previously but came back. Anyways, few questions. Any ideas why it seems like oil is leaking from my left head? My oil level is staying pretty constant thru thousands of miles, maybe it's just old oil? Kind of doubt it.
![]() Also, my input shaft cover was pretty marred up, so I have a new one of those coming aswell as the revised TOB. Should I get a new pressure plate and clutch? Not planning on keeping this setup very long (maybe another year at max), but just wondering if it'll be fine. ![]() Lastly, in case anyone wanted to see an old vs new, you can hear the bearings inside of the old one and it spins alot. New one is nice and tight.

Oh, if you're not planning on keeping that car very long and the clutch isn't slipping, I'd pass on a new clutch and pressure plate.
As far as that oil residue, I wouldn't worry about it, unless it starts dripping. Nope, ol humfrz don't worry about too much anymore. |

Given the financial climate if I had to choose between one that had it clutch done or not.......definitely choosing the one with new TOB, clutch etc.

i'm of the opinion that if it's already pulled apart, and it's not an easy task, better to just do it now than have to re-deal with it later.

as far as i know, pressure plates dont "go bad", but clutch plates do get worn out. im sure the flywheel is fine, so id buy a slightly used / oem clutch plate on the cheap to pop in. keep the existing pressure plate.

Did the car ever go swimming? Looks like dirt on the input shaft cover, and rust coloring around the pressure plate.
Flywheel and pressure plate should clean up fine, find a clutch somewhere and should be good to go. |
