Rear passenger coil over squeaking.

Hello,

On my 2013 Sicon FRS I have a set of JRZ RRS TWO - Double Adjustable Twin Tube Damper coil overs. Recently, one of the coil over on the rear passenger side only, has started to squeak. It only does this on even road at lower end speeds with very small bumps. If you push that side of the car down with your hands fast enough, it will start to squeak(this doesn't happen on any other side).

I've made sure every bolt is tight and they all have blue thread locker, the sway bar end links are in good shape (white line), and everything else down there looks good in my eyes.

Any suggestions? These coil overs were also rebuilt less than a year ago.

It's probably the lower spherical joint squeaking.

As for what you can do about it... there's nothing much you CAN do. When a ball joint has started to squeak it's already too late. Ideally they would have been made with a grease fitting but as it stands, seems like they're built to die.

Maybe spray a bit of oil on it in the hope it can wick into it but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Is the lower spherical joint, the correct term for lower ball joint? Never heard of it of it as that, just making sure. This would be replaceable correct? This is my first time having coil overs and I didn’t install them, don’t quite know if these are removed and built into the coil overs.

googling around it's hard to discern what pictures are from the actual FR-S parts, and it's doubly hard to find a picture that would show if the joint can be serviced without replacing the whole shock. Your best bet is probably contacting JRZ themselves.

That just may do it -

Back in the day, when we had a suspension squeak, we would mix up a batch of coal oil and 30 weight oil (50-50 mixture) and put it in a squirt can. Then crawl under the car and squirt things till the squeak stopped.
