NRG Steering Wheel

So this is my first post and I thought I should add a little context before I describe this exact issue. I'm new to working on cars and this is my first time modding my steering wheel. All the mods I'm doing to my vehicle are for my Dad, he recently passed. My Dad was a handy guy and knew how to work on cars, unfortunately he never really taught me and so I'm now trying to learn on my own.

I bought an NRG Pilota steering wheel and the short hub adapter, no quick release. I'm able to install the wheel but it is usually off center, after a couple of attempts at adjusting the hub with no success, I broke the clock spring and had to get a new one.

I installed the new clock spring with no problem. I know the clock spring needs to be centered which it has been when attempting to install. Where the problem seems to happen is, when I tighten the 17mm nut and it starts to get tight, the hub rotates clockwise about 20 degrees or so.

I've tried using a torque wrench and that seems to rotate it even more. I've tried using a regular socket wrench and I've stopped tightening it before it starts to move on me. Even though the hub is straight, when I test drive it, the wheel is still off center by about ~30 degrees.

I don't know how to fix it and the shops will not touch an aftermarket wheel so I've run out of ideas and I hope someone here has some suggestions. Thanks for any help!

try putting the hub off center counterclockwise off about 30 degrees
and then tighten it down. youll need to work on your man muscles a bit before setting it all straight and calling it good.
it takes a little oompha to say the least.

so i used this trick till i got the motion down. if you know its gonna spin as it gets tight put it off center the opposite way

Ironically enough, I tried going counter-clockwise like you mentioned and the stupid hub decided to not move at all lol. I don't know what else to do.

I had this problem as well with it not lining up exactly after multiple tries. It gets very close but off with whatever teeth you slide it in on. I ending up Drilling/tapping new holes in the hub. Sounds harder than it is but the aluminum is easy to drill through, and you can get a tap kit from harbor freight cheap.
