How to remove 2017+ 1-piece center dash assembly?

I removed the fake carbon 2-piece center dash assembly from my 2016 FR-S and replaced it with the 1-peice leather center dash assembly from the 2017+ BRZ.

It looks way better, but I didn't get the excess leather on the 1-piece dash tucked in perfectly on the lower left corner by the steering wheel. I need to remove it and try again but I am having major difficulty getting it off now!

The fake carbon 2-piece assembly came out pretty easily. I found a few videos on youtube that showed where to put pressure and pop out the right side piece, then pull out the left side piece. The same technique does not seem to work with the 1-peice, the right side does not seem to want to pop out when attached to the left side. I can't find any video of someone removing a 2017+ 1-piece dash assembly.

Does anyone have any tips or a video that could help me get this thing off?

I have the one piece alcantara dash on my 2017 86. It just pops off. I begin on the end furthest from the steering wheel, maybe a corner. You may need a trim tool or very blunt screwdriver to get it started. Just proceed carefully. I suppose it's possible that the mating sockets in the dash are smaller/tighter on the earlier models???

If you can't remove the dash with a flat, plastic, body-panel tool then I would see if you can press on the back of the dash by reaching through the glove box. You may have to remove the glove box, which just requires pulling in the edges of the back of the box past each tab.

For the right side of the trim:

Put both thumbs on the bottom of the trim and the rest of your fingers on top of the trim.

Push up towards the roof of the car with your thumbs, and then pull the trim towards you with your thumbs.

Hope this makes sense lol.

I tried to reach up from the glove box earlier but you would actually need to remove the entire part of the dash connected to the glove box to be able to reach up and push the center dash assembly out. I think it will be easier to just get a trim removal tool and see if I can pop one of the corners out.

I got some trim removal tools and the center dash piece pops right out easily when using them.
