Wheel/Tire Fitment Question

I'm looking at picking up a set of 17x9 +40 rims and according to my research they should clear my Koni struts just fine, but I couldn't find any definitive information about how much negative camber I'll be able to run and the maximum tire width I can use without rubbing. Currently I have about -2.2 degrees of camber (via camber bolts, not top plates) on both front wheels and I'd like to keep it if possible.

You should be able to run 245/40 in theory, which is what I'd say is perfect for that size wheel. If you want to go conservative with the tire size to make sure you have little risk of touching the strut, you could go 235/40. I don't know for certain but I have to believe 2.2deg on 235s would clear.

The thing is, all tires are slightly different size, even if 2 tires are labeled "245/40" (MPSSs/Federals are known to run wide, etc...), and when you're talking slight changes in camber degree the only way of truly knowing is to test fit and see for yourself. Unless someone has your exact identical setup and can vouch for it of course.

17x9 +40 isn't that aggressive though so I wouldn't think you'd have clearance issues unless you ran a seriously meaty tire. For reference I'm on 18x9.5 +38 with a 245/35/18 tire and I have no rubbing lock to lock even on stock suspension. When my coils go on next week I'll probably upgrade to 255/35/18s with 1.7deg of camber for my next set of tires since 255/35/18s usually rub on the stock strut.

i run 17x9 +38 on stock struts and TRD springs.... the most camber u can run is -1.7 ish... anything beyond that will hit the spring perch (and i'm assuming the koni have the same spring perch as the stock ones).... if the konis don't have the spring perch like coilovers, u can run as much camber as u want

Thanks for the tire info! Do you currently run any negative camber with your 18x9.5's and stock struts?

Yeah, the spring perch on the Koni's is pretty much identical to the stock struts. I guess if the wheels turn out to be too wide I could always get 5mm spacers. I believe that should be just enough to clear the strut and let me keep my camber.

Nah not cambered at all on stock setup, my new coils are fully adjustable and will be using camber plates so I'll just mess with it then
