Tein Street Advance Z - too many clicks for damper adjustment possible

Hey Guys,

I received a brand new set of Tein Street Advance Z coilovers for my BRZ couple of days ago. When I unboxed them, I was trying out the damper adjustment just for fun and I recognized, that there are way more clicks on the damper adjustment nob possible than it supposed to be.

Tein says in their manual and on their website, that there are 16 clicks for the damper adjustment possible. But when I turn the nob counter-clockwise from the stiffest setting to soft, there are almost 30 loud clicks possible before the nob stops and no further turning is possible.

Does anyone had the same experience with adjustable Tein coilovers or dampers? Is this normal? Or did I already accidentally destroy my new coilovers? I've never turned above the end of the clickable range, but I am still confused why there are way more then just 16 possible clicks then.

Thank you!

One thing, "how many clicks you can turn total", another thing "how many clicks actually do something meaningful".

I see what you're trying to say. But was it harmful for my coils that I turned the knob above the "meaningful" clicks? That would suck a lot if I accidentally destroyed my new coilovers...

BTW I also contacted Tein with that Issue, but they don't seem to understand. They were talking about 17 clicks but with mine there are 30 clicks possible until the knob turns no more further without forcing it.

Not completely sure about possible damage, but my guess is that probably they should be fine, with exception of damping being not as intended or close to what last "meaningful" clicks should be. I'm not that familiar with internals of shocks, to say with confidence which exactly scenario. Still, there is reason, why vendors write "# clicks from full stiff" and such. One can turn past that, but that isn't adjustment range they write in manuals/specifications about.

As long as you are not twisting the knob with hulk strength while it is not moving you should be fine.

I have seen friends ruin their new coils by turning the knob too much.
They even said it wasn't hard to turn them too far.

Go all the way stiff.
And back off 8 clicks.

DO NOT GO PAST THE 16 Available.
If you are lucky, you didn't mess them up.
But like I said, I've had more than one friend ruin their new coils doing that.

If it is FUBAR you will know when you drive the car.

Okay. Thanks so far. I'm just wondering why it is so easy to turn the knob about 30 times without using much power and why Tein doesn't let the knob just end on exactly 16 clicks. I think there are a lot of idiots like me who just trying how much clicks are possible without reading the manual (which is saying, stop at click #16). Hopefully I didn't damage them. Let's see when they are installed.

I could sleep much better if some coilover tech expert would tell me "don't worry, everything is fine with your coilovers" but it would not help much when he has to lie.

Dont worry you didnt damage them. Mine do the same thing. There seems to be about 30 clicks from full soft to full hard. Maybe we are counting half clicks.lol. Just dont force them past the point where the knob is at the end of the travel and gets hard to turn. I suspect you will end up around 6 or 8 clicks or so from full hard on a street car. You could call their tech line if you want a official answer.

I have the same problem too, when I bought it new, it has 16 clicks only.
Right now it has 30 clicks, I usually leave some room before the knob cannot turn anymore
