ACT throwout bearing - use or discard?
I have an ACT 6-puck clutch kit (with lightweight flywheel) going in soon. Will also be installing a Verus fork & pivot at the same time.
Now the million $$ question - should I use the T.O.B. supplied by ACT for the install, or the "new" design OEM one? What is everyone's experience with this? ** bonus question - my kit is enroute. Does it come with a metal install tool (as I've been told I need) or will I need to source one? |

If it was me, I would go with the new updated TOB. its only like $50 depends where you get it.
Metal install kit, hum.... must be the clutch alignment tool. All clutches come with that. If not they are like $2 at any auto parts store. Or you get them for free depends how pitiful you look when you ask.

Correct - I meant clutch alignment tool.
I have researched it online and the ACT domes appear to come with a plastic tool. Unfortunately, I've also read in various places this tool is problematic as it doesn't center the disc well enough due to poor tolerances and rigidity. Is the dealer likely to have a metal centering tool or should I search one out on my own? |

There is no known aftermarket TOB, so it is either the old TOB, or the new white dot TOB. If it isn't the new part, throw it out and get the new one. |

the dealership will sell you the same plastic tool. No ideal where you are getting the poor tolerance thing from. Eh what ever. I'm tired of thinking today.

ACT gives the old TOB with their kits, mine was bought late last year and it had the old one inside the box. I ended up ordering a new one from the dealer.

Thanks, guys. If the clutch doesn't have the new TOB in the box, I will get it through the dealer.

Yep, I had the ACT Streetlight put in today. I can confirm it came with the old bearing. The one we ordered from Worldpac came with a little divot in it, not a white dot.

What's the difference between the two, other than the dimple "white dot"?
