Mocal sandwich plate coming loose
Hey folks! So I installed a Perrin oil cooler kit earlier this year, and have had a somewhat recurring issue with the sandwich plate coming loose and leaking oil.
It looks like part of the issue could be that the adapter for one of the lines makes contact with the stock intake box, which I'm guessing applies pressure in a counter-clockwise direction under load and over bumps. Another factor is simply that the design of the Mocal sandwich plate makes it difficult to properly tighten with most sockets. Has anyone else had this same issue? Were you able to orient the plate so that the lines have sufficient clearance from the stock air box? Mine actually has had the adapter melt the plastic a bit. Also, any recommendations for a thin walled 27mm socket that will make tightening the sandwich plate easier?

I just use a large crescent wrench. Doesn't seat super well but still gets adequate torque.

I had a similar issue with my Jackson Racing kit. I believe they fixed it now by removing some material around the bolt so you can fit a socket completely on it.
For me I used a 12 point socket and 1/2" ratchet. Apply downward pressure directly above the socket and turn it slowly so as to not slip off and round it. Haven't had any leaking after I did this. Mine also contacts my air box but if you position it JUST RIGHT it won't touch even on track driving. The hard part is changing the air filter lol

Ive got a Perrin oil cooler. I was able to position mine to give about a half inch of space between the lines and the air box.
I had a machine shop take some material off an existing socket to make it fit. Much easier to tighten down that way. No problems with leaks or loosening, even after a dozen plus track days.

I used a small pneumatic grinder and made room for my socket to fit properly. Then cleaned it off really really well....
