AT Driver's - 2 Gear Drop

Not sure if this has been posted - but just learned something new in our Auto Trans.

If you double-tap the paddles - it will actually skip down a gear.

Example - you're in 6th - double tap - car goes directly into 4th.

Pretty cool functionality - almost similar to a kick-down button found in cars like IS-F.

Yes, it's definitely nice for passing on freeways. I think it will actually kick it in 5th for a mere moment before going to 4th, atleast that's how it feels. Also, it won't let you downshift if your revs are too high, for example, if you're at 7000 RPM in 3rd, it won't let you down shift to 2nd (not that you would want to). I like it, because this way I know I wont f' up the engine on accident.

thats true. i have driven it a bit hard on the mountain roads and also found out it does this automatically when going fast and slowing down hard for a turn - first time it did that i had a grin on my face for hrs -- it definitely isnt the corolla Auto transmission of years past -- its pretty dang smart !!! I truly love it.

The auto trans is based off the IS-F 8 speed.

I think this has been debunked. Supposed to be the same as is350.

I did test the two gear drop and it is really quick, it might even skip the middle gear?

I think I read where it's placed in the IS 350 or 250 tranny case (because it's small enough) but it is based off the ISF tranny architecture. Every google I see says it's ISF derived.

x2

It's the same AT (A960E) as that in the IS250 but uses the 'shift logic' from the IS-F.

IS250/350 are very slow shifting and not very fun oriented (they won't hold it at red line) - luckily for us with the IS-F shift logic the 86 AT is nothing like this.
