Tein coilover install top but issue
Hello,
I recently installed tein street basis coilover a, bit I am having a problem with the top but that is driving me crazy. My passenger side top but is loose and whenever I try to tighten it the but just spins. The drivers side however is perfect and tight. I get a clunking from the passengers side when I drive and it’s so annoying. When trying to tighten the passenger but it just spins and spins. I’ve asked around and was told it’s not stripped and I need to find a way to grip the shaft while I tighten the nut. Someone told me to use an impact gun to tighten it. That sounds like a a bad idea. Anyone can help? Thanks in advance and sorry if this was posted before. I did search the forums but didn’t see anything.

If there isn't a hex in the middle of the strut rod to hold it still you could try a strap wrench to try and hold it still, or tape some vice grips over and try that(don't damage the rod!). You're not supposed to let the strut rod spin at all, using an impact gun will certainly cause that to happen which results in a blown strut. Every single Youtube video though shows people using an impact gun. \
Edit: Better yet grab some rubber hose and some vice grips, wrap the rod in the hose and then clamp down with the vice grips. |

I also installed Tein street Basis Z coilovers. Didn't have an issue tightening them with an impact ( Milwaukee 3/8 on low setting). Just zip it down, don't sit there and let the gun keep hammering it. Have done it this way my entire life, never an issue.
I would also make sure you have the washers/spacers placed in the correct order. I belive an assembly diagram is provided in the instructions. This could cause a gap and it would never tighten. If your set on not using power tools, try some channel locks with a soft cloth wrapped around the jaws and grip the threaded rod up top to stop it from spinning.
