2017 BRZ Stereo

I had a 86 before and the biggest difference I see between them is the sound system. The one comes with the Subaru is just terrible. The volume keeps changing on its own due to poor Bluetooth connection (I assume) and the sound is just awful. So I am thinking to replace the head unit and I contacted Crutchfield and was told that none of their stereos will work with the factory back up camera. Does anyone know a headunit that will fit in a 2017 brz (with a kit maybe?) and has Navi and is compatible with back up camera? I’m not familiar with all the terminology in Audio so I think I should just ask here.

Most any aftermarket head unit CAN work with the factory backup camera... but it isn’t a plug-n-play situation. I installed a Pioneer AVH2330-NEX in my 17 BRZ and I have all functions working (backup camera, BT, factory USB and Aux, etc.). If you aren’t comfortable with fairly advanced car stereo wiring, just take your car to a pro and let them know what you want and they’ll make it happen. Here is my thread detailing the fun that I had with this installation https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126171

I think I'm gonna get the same unit as yours, and I already called a shop and they gonna charge me around $150 for the harness and install labor, sounds reasonable to me. One more question, will I need a kit or a cover to fit the headunit?

Yes, you’ll need a dash kit to fill in the gap around the aftermarket head unit. For my installation I purchased:
-Maestro RR to retain steering wheel controls and add gauges
-Maestro T01 harness that was supposed to simplify installation... but I ended up modifying the harness to the point that I could have just used the hardwire harness included with the RR
-USB adapter to retain factory USB port
-antenna adapter for AM/FM radio
-dash kit

I don’t care about satellite radio, so I didn’t buy any adapters to retain it with the Pioneer radio. If you want to retain steering wheel controls but don’t care about adding gauges, there are cheaper options than the Maestro RR. The USB adapter is optional, only needed if you want to use the factory USB port. If the shop is quoting only $150 for installation parts and labor, they are definitely not using the Maestro setup and might be skipping some extras like the USB adapter and steering wheel controls.
