Gauge question

I just picked up a '14 Monogram edition which I'll set up for track. First concern is for oil pressure and temp gauges. I haven't had time to pull the intake filter box off, but I'm told there are sending units for both underneath it. Is that so? Also, I plan to put in a K&N filter, but wonder if there's any real gain from an aftermarket unit.

Oh, some feel that there is some power gain from a free-er flowing air filter ..... how much depends on whether or not you put the sticker on .....

With the K&N drop in filter there will be a gain. With their Typhoon intake you will gain more induction noise than power(without tune), you're also going to need to tune it and wash off the oil from the filter so it doesn't mess up the MAF. You also have less space if you decide to use a sandwich plate for sensors.

I would recommend sticking with a drop in filter instead of going the route I went.

You will also need to use the sending units of the gauges you buy regardless of what it has from the factory, sure there are locations you can tap into or save the headache and get a sandwich plate.

There are sending units for temp and pressure but I don't believe any aftermarket gauge is compatible with them that I have seen. Most gauges come with sending units but you would need to buy the adapters to hook them up. I am pulling my pressure from the factory location, and temp from a port next to the a/c compressor.

I would also recommend going with a separate oil and temp gauge. I went with the Innovate dual gauge and the temp is hard to read since it is represented as a graph.

Under the air box next to the TB there's a port that you can tap into. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125350

I have my sending unit in that port, but I had to make an extension for it because of my intake getting in the way. A lot of people use a sandwich plate since the oil filter is right there practically poking you in the eye.

DSportMag did a round up with tuned and untuned dyno numbers of a BUNCH of different intakes. Make up your own mind if it's worth it.
