Thinking of fixing up a crashed S2000...

Originally, I wanted to build a drift car as a project, but drifting can be expensive and the learning process even more expensive...

Both my stepbrothers have bought crashed S2000’s with very little to no frame or engine damage for cheap on Copart, so I gave it some thought, but wanted to see what some people here thought.

So, those of you that have gone from a twin to an S2000 and Vice versa, what did you like most from each?

I know a few people with S2000s and they're only problem is sourcing parts. As these cars get older, it's only going to get tougher. Good luck!

There were approx 100,000 total S2000's built and only 66,500 imported to the US.

Amazing cars! Expensive parts. Fun to drive. Ok to own. IMO, Bad to DD.

Well, I’m only 21 and don’t even use the back seats in my FRS... barely use the trunk either. They’re there for my insurance to call it a 4 seater lol.

Speaking of which, would an S2000 be a lot more expensive to insure than a twin?

At 21 and I presume not on an unlimited budget then the Miata is the way to go for a first build. If things go wrong you haven't poured a pile of money into a project that never gets finished.

Pouring money into a salvage title S2000 is not a great starting point.

I figured, my brother got his for 3700 shipped from copart, in total with parts, paint, and mandatory shop repairs, it was 10k almost touching 11

And still a salvage title so almost impossible to get the money back that goes into it (even a S2000). OK if just a track toy if you can keep costs down and hang onto it but a horrible investment for a street car that you may get bored of in 2 years and want to sell.

I’d rather have a Miata as a track toy, I just don’t know much about them. In Miami they’re dirt cheap, especially the NA with a 1.6 liter.

I helped turbo an old friend of mine’s RHD Miata and it was extremely simple, but because it was a Frankenstein kit with various parts from different kits, it took a while to fit everything, ‘twas a 12 hour install and didn’t even have proper tuning, it was running at 6 psi with an FMU lmao... damn thing always ran too rich or too lean.
