Vehicle Theft Registration

I just got the paperwork listing all the fees for a BRZ that I'm trying to buy and saw that they added a Vehicle Theft Registration Fee ($245). After asking them what this is for, I was told that the car has body markings on it making all parts of the car traceable and if the car gets stolen, I'll be paid $5000 from the agency. I'm not getting charged for the policy, but this is the cost to just transfer it to my name. I was told that this is on all of their cars. Is this something I can get out of? Especially since they added it on without asking me first. Has anyone paid for this on their purchase?

I don't have it on my contract for my Toyota 86 GTS but I am in Australia so might not be applicable here

There was something like that on mine as well, for $100. I told them no. They said, ok, we'll throw it on for free. I said whatever, but I'm not paying for it. Turns out it was a couple of small red "anti-theft system" stickers placed on the car. Total stealership gimmick.

A lot of times dealers do this by etching the VIN into all of the car's glass. It makes the car harder to part out for thieves. They do this to every car at the dealership since it only costs them a couple bucks per car to do it. If the get 1 out of 10 people to pay for it, they are still making a huge profit. This sounds like something similar. Just refuse to pay for it.

Smart thieves will strip the cars' parts and have the rest of the car crushed.

I got this for free to, and the dealership explained that I got $5000.00 towards a new subaru vehicle ontop of what the insurance company pays out in the event the car is stolen and not recovered.

Did the same for me. It only cost you if you want to be registered and if it was stolen get the 5k. I said no to the option and signed a form saying I declined the service.

On a side note congrats on you new BRZ.

Just emailed the sales guy and told him I don't want to pay for this and that I wouldn't have wanted it if they had asked me beforehand. Hopefully I can get out of paying for this.

This is probably the DNA dots that are a dealership-level offering. There's also a MasterTech offering.
