A rice burner, or ricer is a car, usually a cheap Japanese manufactured car that has been heavily modified to give cool looks and high performance. If you want to rice up your car and don't know where to start, then read this guide. It will give you a basic idea of what a rice burner looks like and how to mod them.

Steps

1 Buy a car: This is the most important step. Don't expect a ricer if you don't have a car. Look for cheap and used models, a brand new car won't make a true ricer. Honda Civics and Acura Integras are really cheap and common. Its a good idea to start out with those.

2 Start out with spoilers: A true ricer usually always have rear end spoilers. Spoilers are cheap compared to the other parts of the car and you can buy a good one on eBay for about $100.

3 Work on exhaust system: Another thing that ricers have are custom performance exhaust systems. Performance exhaust systems increases the performance of your vehicle and also lets out a rumble when you start up your car so you can show off to other people. Custom exhaust pipes are normally larger than the original ones.

4 Custom paint job: Most ricers you see on the streets are not in their original colors. You might want to consider painting your car another color such as black, silver, red, and blue.

5 Carbon fiber hood: True ricer burners are defined by their carbon fiber hood. Ripping off the original hood and replacing them with new ones might not sound comforting, but the outcome will make your car cool and unique.

6 Change the engine: This is perhaps the most complicated and expensive process of turning your car into ricer. The engine is the most vital piece of your car and changing it will take a long time and a lot of money. Normal cars usually have a 1.6 to 1.8 liter engines that should give you around 160 to 180 horsepower. But many ricers have custom engines that gives over 200 horsepower. A good idea is to get a 3.8 liter engine that can give you up to 193 miles per hour.

7 Brakes: Brakes are a vital part of your car. In a car, especially a ricer, brakes are important. This is because ricers can go very fast so you need really good brakes so you can stop your car fast before it hits something. Consider checking your brakes to see if they are able to handle the performance of a ricer.

8 Suspension: Not only will aftermarket suspension help you blaze through the corners. Brakes and suspension will help you get through the corners fast. Making your car faster without improving the suspension will put you on the fast track to the morgue!

9 Wheels: As mentioned above, ricers can go very fast. Traction is important to putting the power down and going around a corner. Cheap tires will break loose at the limit. This will most likely end in one of three ways; you will either spin out, crash, and/or roll over. You should definitely get tires that have better grip, you may even want wider tires. Also be sure check you tire pressures to make sure you have the desired psi in the tire.

10 Interior mod: If you really want to, do a interior mod. Add GPS, TV, custom seats, steering wheels, neon lights, etc. You don't really need interior mods, so only do so if you have the money.

11 Test: Once you have your new car, be sure to test it out and see if it needs anymore modifications. Congratulations, you have at your disposal, a ricer burner.


Tips

• Some "ricer" attributes such as a spoiler or large exhaust tip do not affect performance, but add a sporty look. These are generally inexpensive (although drilling holes in the car or otherwise permanently modifying it can hurt its resale value) and safe because they do not make the car easier to push beyond its overall mechanical limits or its operator's limits.
• Save original parts that are removed so you or someone else can later return the car to its original appearance if desired.
• When looking for cars, Japanese manufactured cars are recommended, since they are more reliable.
• Mitsubishi and Nissan are not recommended because even though they might look good, they have poor reliability.
• Always drive safe. Ricers can go very fast and if you don't pay attention, your friends and family will find you in a coffin.
• Be sure to pick a good shop to mod your car. Some shops are better than others so pay attention.
• Race people only at the track not on the street.

Warnings

• DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. Ricers are very expensive to build and maintain. And they are also dangerous to drive around in.
• Be prepare to pay for gas. Ricers are gas guzzlers that runs on premium gas. So if you are not comfortable paying over $4.18 a gallon for gas, don't mod your car.

I'm pretty sure a civic with engine swap/sticky tires/coilovers would be the exact opposite of a ricer. Ricer literally means "all show no go", so if you got the go part taken care of, you dont qualify... I'm guessing this is a post from someone who has a chevy

If you read my comment at the start of the thread you would have known that I stumbled across this site and thought it was FUNNY and was only sharing for others to have a laugh

And No I don't have a Chevy (badged as Holden here in Aus) and would never waste my money on a piece of S*#T Chevy/Ford anyway .

If you must know I just sold my Civic with guess what an engine conversion, coilovers, type R strut and sway bars, Recaro millenium driver and passenger seats etc.... before that was a Prelude (Imported from Japan) with a H22A (Si VTEC Jap Spec 200 PS) with 2WS chassis BB4.

secondly people were just pointing out that if you are going to make fun of ricers they left way too much on the table, there is soo much hilarity in what ricers do and they played softball in that article

3rdly you just listed 2 exclusively ricey nasty wrong wheel drive cars you owned and apparently were proud of...to add credibility???

I obviously need an AUS eng to USA eng translator.

I was covering all bases with the reply that I wrote for whom the comment was directed at hence my last comment.

I agree with your first two points and in regards to the third point I know that the Honda's were front wheel drive and i was not trying to gain any credibility as they were good for first cars but I was only pointing out that they were not rice but JDM if you do not like or anyone else does not like Honda's that is perfectly fine the reply was made by someone with a Honda Accord CG2.

Accord is being sold in a couple weeks for a porsche 944, right wheel drive and stick shift finally....

OH BTW, this accord has beaten a foxbody mustang, 350z, WRX w/ intake and exhaust... V6 FTW.
