Turbo from 06 wrx in Brz?
My friend has a 06 wrx with a built motor. He's getting a bigger turbo and saying I should see if his old turbo work instead of saving for a kit. He said hed sell it to me for kust a fee hundred and obviously if have to buy everything else. I was trying to find if someone has done it before it if it's something that could work but literally cant find anything. I think it's the td04 turbo in his wrx

You can put the turbo from that car in the BRZ.
But that's about all you can do with it, the turbo will sit in your car not doing anything. |

I should rephrase.
You can put any turbo of any size in your car. What you should do is figure out what you want to achieve with the car, power or power delivery or purpose-wise, then go from there. The rest is just fill in the blank as far as right turbo, right type of kit, parts, tuning. I can throw a S13 SR20DET stock T25 onto the FA20, it would work. But do I want to waste my time on a turbo first designed in the 1980s? |

you might as well buy a kit with a known cost and save the hassle of custom work needed to fit your turbo, oil lines, oil pan tapping, intake routing. intercooler, engine management etc.
A toilet is cheap but the plumbing gets expensive. That few hundred bucks will quickly turn to a few thousand if you don't know what you're doing; which, sorry to say, in this case you don't since you have to ask. Not trying to bash, but that is the reality. Seen it all too often when people get one part then they gotta take out a second mortgage with a nice garage ornament to get it to work, badly. The manifold won't fit. You could fab up your own manifold or pay someone to make one but it likely wouldn't end up being cheaper than buying an existing kit and the results might not be what you want. It could certainly be done but it wouldn't be all that easy or cheap.

on final thought, a few hundred bucks on a turbo that someone else would let go for $50 nine years ago. Your buddy isn't really doing you any favors. JUST a few hundred is just him ripping you off. Just look at this kit: ![]() If you just have the turbo unit, the guy is selling you less than 10% of everything you need to turbo your car. Did you inspect the turbo for shaft play? would suck if the compressor wheel grenades. Bottom line, don't even bother. |
