Manual fan switch
Is there any way to wire up a switch for the fan? My coolant doesn't get hot, but my oil heats up going around town. I have an oil cooler, so I was wondering if there was a way to wire it to a switch and turn it on manually to draw air across the oil cooler when the fan wouldn't normally be on. Ideally, it would be a 2 position switch, on and auto(normal operation).
Any ideas? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk |

What oil temperatures are you seeing? I don't think you'd see any dangerous oil temps if the coolant isn't triggering the rad fan to start especially if you have an oil cooler.
However, if you have a OFT you could change the values for the temperature that the fan will turn on at. If you turn on the AC it would also turn on the 2nd rad fan to get air through the condenser. |

I turn on my AC and if it's cold out, adjust my heat accordingly.
Works great as long as the oil cooler is mounted in the path of side of the running fan. IIRC when the AC compressor is engaged, only one fan is triggered. edit: Yeah, what @Northern_18 said.

You can, simple relay, wires and a switch.
But..... just what makes you think your oil gets way too hot in normal driving around town? I and countless other owners that don't have an oil cooler have never had any high oil temp problems. (Unless your at the track pushing it hard, on a hot summer day.)

The 1st fan comes on at 200 degrees water temp, the 2nd fan comes on when your turn on the AC.
I had the same problem living near Palm Springs. I mounted my oil cooler outboard behind where the running lights had been. No it gets it's own cool air and less restriction for air going through the intercooler and radiator. I also put a small fan on the oil cooler with a switch. Works really great for slow city driving. |
