Can a nerdy white guy drive an FR-S?

Hey all, I really want an FR-S. I have been driving economy cars for ages. I am at a point in my life I can afford a nice car (hopefully under $25K before tax). I love the idea of a fun to drive, manual, RWD car that I can drive and enjoy for years and years. I consider myself a fan of nice cars, I know my way around, but I am not a serious gear head, more of an enthusiast. I am 6’2” tall 215 pounds, not muscular or intimidating in any way. I work with computers for a living. I don’t drive sitting off to the side with one hand on the wheel, maybe wearing a backwards baseball cap. Am I not “cool” enough to drive the FR-S? Am I getting myself involved in a community that I don’t belong in? I am certainly not into street racing or anything like that. Thanks for any feedback folks,

Jason

First thing, first, Welcome to the forum. Secondly, we have all kinds of race, age & etc members here. Full gear head running oil & gas in the blood vein to member that just barley get into sports car. Some are jacka** (like me), but most of em are nice, so feel free to ask around. We have tons of pc expert members here, so I'm pretty sure you'll get along.

No.... /thread. Haha just kidding, if you like something dont be scared off by what people may think or what YOU think they will be saying. if you want this car and can afford it, get it, who cares if someone thinks something negative. As ichi said, there are all different kinds on here so dont be shy, if you have questions, ask, someone will more than likely know the answer and most of all have fun

Sounds like the SCION Douche bags made it seem like people like you as you described yourself can't drive SCION. That's not true, I don't see why you can drive the FR-S

Welcome

I'm a scrawny, nerdy type myself. Regardless of what the rednecks and media really want you to believe, enthusiasts and gearheads come from all walks of life. As long as you understand that it's more your attitude about life that determines "cool" and not the car you drive, you'll be fine. hell, in auto-shop back in high school, I got locked in the tool cage frequently by the rednecks just because I was the nerdy kid that was learning the material faster than they were.

You should have a blast carving through some of those twisty mountain roads around the San Francisco Bay area. I would suggest taking some sort of performance driving course beforehand if you're inexperienced with pushing a rear wheel drive car. The last thing you want is to end up in the side of a hill because you punched the accelerator too hard during a corner.

Hey thanks for the sound advice and warm welcome. If I can afford to I would love to take a driving class at a track or something with this car. I do plan on some "spirited" driving, but nothing I would think would be at the level of unsafe, especially in respect to the drivers I am sharing the road with. I just wish that other drivers felt the same way.

Again thanks for the good advice. I think of myself as an pretty "cool" easy going guy who really likes cars... And computers... and radio controlled things... and other super nerdy things.

There isn't a "coolometer" that measures your "coolness" in order to own the car.

I wouldn't worry, most people who drive nice sporty cars are nerds at heart (especially ones that are on enthusiasts forums).
